Its not but you can buy the cdi module to make it work. It says not using the cdi module may even damage your motor. There are 1000 hp dsms using this setup. I'm going to try these 300m coils. This is a inferior coil to the aem type but it is better than plug wires. I've seen some 4g63s running 800hp with the 300m coils. The reason I won't just use the coils out of the duractec is the fact that they don't seal on the valve cover well by themselves. Then, the way I mounted them in the stock plug boots makes them stick up too high. The 300m coils aren't as bulky.

I guess i skipped over that part. Is there a list of coils somewhere on the forum that can be used? i know the duratec coils have less voltage from reading some threads but there has to be a car that has coils available with more power or same as the stock sho.

I don't know. If you look up performance coil on plugs in google you will get a bunch of different brands that make the duratec style coils with more spark. I'm sure the aem coils give plenty of spark with the cdi module.

Duratec Coils produce a very strong spark. Be careful with aftermarket because there not always made as well as OEM.

One more note, the stronger the coil the bigger the back lash to the DIS module after that coil fires. I don't know how strong the check valves are in the DIS module, but if you exceed them you burn out the primary ignition controls. This is why some vehicles require additional resistor.

Ok here's some results with my research.

I have visited many mustang forums , specially looking for aftermarket COPs. From what I have read , MSD is meh , Accel is no-no , Grenattelli is meh , and is seams that WeaponX is the ******* (really good).

I will contact them for further infos cause they make them for universal purposes with 4 custom heigths. Ill also ask if you absolutely need a damn module to run them.

this may be something for shosource to check out. A wire harness is easy to make, if the company wants to test one of their coils on a sho.

i actually put some factory ford coils in tonight and its missing and backfiring quite a bit. so im going to check al my wiring in the morning.

If the set is $300.00 that might be a little stiff for any real marketing value.

Maybe I am just getting old and lazy, but I always come back to the saying 'If it ain't broke'. Did I somehow miss all the threads about the SHO's getting crank cancer and rod bearing failures because of running the stock ignition? Seriously though, I have always been under the impression that the stock parts were such good parts that there was simply no gain to be had by 'upgrading' to aftermarket units.

Besides the fact that its kool, you can get rid of the coil pack and have more room for the turbo, you will never have to buy spark plug wires again, it will make your plugs last longer, you can run copper plugs with a larger gap to gain more power. The car starts up fast as **** (just found that out last night), and simply the fact that it makes the car run better.

ive seen 1000 hp Supras with Ford DIS systems.
oh wait isnt that what we have stock????

Yes but you cant compare it to anything , maybe if it had the weapon X it would have 1050hp. I do see your point but im in a stage where if I gain 10hp with this , then so be it. I want to max out my N/A engine by thinking outside the box. In my case the turbo is out of question , I dont believe in that to put power down. And its not a money excuse. Bragging rights gets more powerful too , Ex: I killed a turbo'd civic and I was neck to neck with a wrx sti....mine being N/A... See where im going with this?

The 05 up mustangs gets 10-25hp+ with this with I think even better ignition systems , **** even if I get 5hp I would be a happy camper. Like I said above this aint no daily driver , of course for stock applications or mildly modded shos , the stock ignition system is more then enough.

Actually, they probably had EDIS, not DIS. DIS is a bastardization of EDIS and TFI, only ever used on the SHO and the Thunderbird SC. EDIS is very common and better than DIS.

and all 2.3 dual plug engines including mustang rangers and the xrti or whatever those things were

EDIS upgrade will probley gain a tiny amount of power.. i dont have proof but its only because of the 36-1 wheel which has a better idea where the engine is at compaired to our 3 tooth wheel
