I have a very nasty squeel coming from the engine area. ( History ) I've changed out the serpintine tensioner pully and the lower ideler pully and the water pump in the past. There's no grinding sound just a squeel. It does get louder as the engine revs higher. I'm leaning towards the W/P but the sound is different. I've inspected both ideler pullies and the SERP TEN pully and nothing. Could it be coming from the timeing belt area. I took the top cover off over the weekend the belt looked in good shape.

Yes the belt is tight it's about 4 months old and I inspected it. I also have a clear pathway for the belt, must have used about 30 cables ties for all hoses and cables.

Well if you assume that the parts replaced are good then you have alt, ac, ps and timing belt tensioner that go round and round. $5 stethoscope can be real handy. Just what do you mean by -the past?

I believe I found the source of the squeel. It's the water pump. As I was driving home yesterday the temp gauge got to the "M" in normal after about 2 miles. Thank god for cool weather and a good fan it stayed like that all the way home and I also melt coolant. As soon as I got home I did the simplist thing. I put my finger in the over flow tank and it felt medium cool. It's a 10 mile 45 min drive home in traffic at 4pm. Since it was at the "M" the whole time it should have been warmer. Yes this is a POS Autozone W/P, where can I get a good one at? This one lasted 2 years.

I had an out of work mechanic friend do the work. Since then he is no longer a friend. I now know why he was out of work. Being a very shody mechanic, he had the very impressive aray of about $5,000 in tools but no knowlage. When he replaced it 2 years ago he split the pump and only put the new half with the pully on. To answer your Q at least 25,000 on the old 1/2 and about 12,000 on the new.

Dean,

So you think the squeal is coming from the bearing of the waterpump? I might have a good used one if you're looking for something to get you by until you can afford a new one.
