Apparently online, you can book the Super 8 near Dave's for $5x a night. (Link is to the correct Super8, 9000 block of St Charles Rock Road.)

Also, Ian had a great idea of pricelining a block of rooms near the date.

I would be careful if you decide to bring a gun, as it's against the law to carry (concealed or otherwise) in IL and may be more trouble than it's worth.

Just in case my sarcasm went over anyone's head, East STL can be pretty rough in a lot of spots.

that's not to say that STL, MO isn't free of bad spots, but generally if you stay where everyone is saying to stay at, you'll be golden.

mostly because MO recognizes a CCW or permit to carry from any state that issues one. IL and WI do not issue weapons permits, and do not recognize any CCW or Permit to carry.

I lock mine up unloaded and out of reach when i have to work in IL or WI, I do carry loaded when in my hotel room (local ordinances may vary, but IL doesn't rule against having it in your hotel room, only transport to the room and in the vehicle, such as locked and unloaded in a case). but yes, when checked into my room in East STL or anywhere near Peoria, or Chicago it stays on the night stand since I roll around in my sleep. ;-)

I am looking into rooms now. Expedia lists many within 5 miles for under $50 so it shouldn't be a problem.
