Looking at replacing the cabin filter on my 2013 SHO. I see online OEM is like 15 bucks but a FRAM CF11176 Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter with Arm & Hammer baking soda and activated charcoal is 5 bucks more. However 2 reviews said on their Explorer the Fram seemed to restrict airflow slightly? Anyone have any experience with stock vs aftermarket cabin air filters?

You can get the knock-off version of that for ~$10 or the actual one you listed for $16.99 on Ebay. I ordered the $16.99 one but have not installed it yet.

The charcoal ones are a waste and do nothing extra. It's marketing hype.

I just ran to my local Advanced Auto store and got a good Purolator one for like $11! Works great and I'll replace it every year with my Spring allergies and all the dust/allergens in the air! $11 bucks a year isn't bad!

I have had good luck with the FRAM. I get mine from Amazon for around $15 ish... I personally spray some Febreeze on the new filter. Gives it a noce scent for a few days. If I cant bring the Taurus to Hawaii I bring Hawaii to the car. Also despite the owners manual of the 20K replacement I recommend at minimum inspection at 15K especially if in a dusty environment. You will probably be surprised at how dirty it gets in short amount of time.

Agreed, especially with how easy it is to get too. My Altima takes me forever to get to and the filter is twice the size of the opening so it's a huge pain to get the old one out and a new one in.

I know people that have made there own cabin filters out of a 3M filter made for residential heating a cooling. Simply
cut to the correct dimensions. Re-enforce the edge with some aluminum duct tape and wala. And there is enough material
leftover to make 4+ more.

Behind the glove box. It's easy, no tools needed.

where are they located and how easy is it to change
LOL Easy is a relative term, it was easy BUT I did cut my hand on some sharp plastic, do a Google search there are several tutorials on line. For me the hardest part was getting the clips unsnapped. Its been awhile but I remember have some issue with the glove compartment but I cant remember what it was. It will be pretty dirty you will be glad you did it once it is done. Good Luck

I broke the damn plastic tab thingy because it would't budge and hard to get a good hold on it. I also have OCD so I had to go to the dealer and get a new door/bracket. The one from the dealer actually had a better seal around it than the factory one! But it is very easy to change.

Here's mine after only 14,000 miles and 2 years after buying car new.

If it makes you feel better. They are not easy to remove without breaking. A pocket screwdriver helps.
