First of all Ive done some searching without finding too many answers, so don't hate too much.

I'm looking for a fun fast daily. Going to pickup a C7 soon, but also need a new daily. It needs to be an auto with remote start, hopefully warms up quickly after being remote started, fast and fun and mostly have a lot of low down power. Really want CarPlay/AA capabilities and I see there is a swap for less than 2k to upgrade to Sync 3. I was looking at a 16 CTS Vsport to get CarPlay and upgraded Cue, but they are 45k starting and that's a lot to spend on top of a C7 and a new house. I was thinking I can get a used SHO for much cheaper and add Sync 3 and some upgrades and have a good option. Older Vsports with the old logos and slower Cue start t about 30k and that's mighty tempting. I'm talking about the 14+ newest CTS with the 3.6 TT with 420hp in a sub 4K package not the CTSV

So educate me on what I need to know

13+ seems to be the refresh, but can someone give me a list of what was upgraded or added or whatever each year?
What do I need to look out for, and what are common problems in these cars?

I see that the Livernois packages are very popular upgrades. Does this give the car a lot more power off the line/speed?

What other popular upgrades do people do to these cars?

How do these cars ride and handle? Any popular upgrades to vastly improve this?

Real world MPG?

What options or features are available to add to the 13+ cars from the factory? (I realize I can look on ford.com but that's only for a 17, doesn't give me the information for an older car)

What else do I need to know?

I got a new 2016 off the lot for 35 out the door by searching CarGuru for SHOs that had been on the lot for over a year. Didn't even need to be that patient. If you have time, might take that route. I haven't been this excited about a car for a long time!

Also, my mpg for the first 1500 miles seems to be about 22 highway and 18 town.

A tune will give the car a lot more power throughout the entire RPM range and it's very noticeable. Easily a must do for the price.

Other popular upgrades are 3 bar MAP sensor and tstat (with the tune), downpipes, intake/exhaust (mainly for sound), and eventually methanol.

The cars ride great for a DD. They handle like a 4400 lbs land yacht. Regardless of what you do it's always going to weigh 4400 lbs and handle like a boat. You can improve it with stiffer springs but it's never going to be great and stiffer springs are going to make it ride harder for DD.

I usually see 18 or 19 around the city with my car and I drive it pretty aggressively. On the highway I usually see around 26 or 27 and have seen just over 31 on one occasion with tune.

13 and up have a few more options, heated steering wheel, lane assist and park assist, better looking front grille. Mostly the same other than that as far as I know. Livernois tune took almost a full second off my 0-60 time, so I would say that is a must have.

I've never been able to keep a car more than a year and a half. I've had mine 2.5 years now, 152K miles and I'm 90% sure my next car will just be a 2014 or 2015 model. I never get tired of driving it. I have found myself looking at cts-v's and Camaro ZL1's just because of the huge amounts of horsepower they come with stock, but for the money and usable street power between the 3, I think the smart option would be for me to stick with another Ford.

The only issue I've had so far was a $20 blend door activator which made my passenger side blow cold air only in the winter, but there are quite a few people who have had to replace the PTU. That is probably the most popular problem that costs a lot of money.

Yes, 2013 was the refresh. Updated grill and LED tails as well as new dash and biggest improvement IMHO is the brakes.
Certain options changes as to what you can get with what over the years. And I don't know what year but I believe at least 2016+ has sync3.
Tune is a big improvement, still very tame in traffic, actually I like the changes in throttle, trans response better in stop and go traffic over stock. I commute and spend a lot of time in traffic and average around 17mpg.

I have a 2010 non-PP and the stock brakes were terrible. After a couple hard corners they would warp brand new rotors. I upgraded to the 13+ PP brakes and they are night and day better. If you go with the 10-12 I would almost consider it a must. I personally like the 10-12 grill more than the 13+ and I most definitely like the 10-12 wheels way more than any of the 13+ wheels; but that's just personal preference.

One thing I believe they did away with in 13+ was the Jukebox and DVD player. The Jukebox is an internal hard drive that allows you to put a CD into the player and rip it to the hard drive (then play it whenever w/out the CD). While not a big deal to most I use it ALL the time and thing it's worth it. There are options on the newer models where you can plug in an external HD to simulate something similar but it's not as streamlined. The downside is that I believe the 10-12 have Sync 1 and there's no way to mirror Google or Apple maps from the phone to the screen.
