New to the site and new to SHO's. I bought my brothers' 94 ATX w 65k on it.

Not a bad ride but I just love buying a car and then working on it. Just got a new radiator and am doing searches on the belt and valvetrain maintenance. Great info!!!

Also has begun to make the lovely rod bearing rattle  . Of course, being a *******, oh_my I put Castrol 20-50w in it because I am used to using that grade for my other vehicles.( Volkswagen, Olds 455). I am not sure that I have caused any damage with this oil weight but who knows.

I need a good manual!!! Where, who, how much??!!

Russ M. had quite a few for sale around a month or 2 ago. I bought an EVTM manual. Send him an email [email protected]
You will need a manual from '93-95 to get the ATX info included. Have you poked around the stuff at http://www.shotimes.com

1) check your cat converter heatshields, if loose they can sound like rod bearings.
2) drain the oil....they don't like 20w50.
3) Don't fret if it is the rod bearings. Really don't a hard job at all. But if you attack it. Replace the mains as well.

Thanks for the leads on the manuals, I will check it out.

Yeah, it's the rods alright. I have heard too many loose rods to think it's something else. Bummer. I did the same trick on a couple Volkswagen watercooled. Replaced the rod bearings and fixed the knock. Most older V-8 cars, it's just as easy to pull the engine.

Main bearings too? Now that makes it a little more "interesting". I have never touched a SHO engine before, so I am not sure how far down the crank will move to allow replacement of both bearing halves.?????? Heck, I don't even know how many MAINS this car has??
