Hello everyone,

Just picked up a new(to me) 2014 SHO non pp. It is all stock but loving the car so far. Still playing with all the gizmos and figured everything out.

Here is the obligatory pictures.

Welcome! If you hang around here for very long, it won't stay stock for long. Go straight for a tuner and don't look back.

Welcome to your new home, Kyle, with an infinite garage :) Great pix, and the SHO looks good too! A tune is definitely the biggest bang for your buck here, currently best combo being tune + plugs (not needed here as new) + 3 bar MAP + lower temp TStat.

Hey Kyle, I just noticed you're from PA! If you're on the western half (or at least willing to do a bit of driving), I'm organizing a meet-up for SHO owners of all years, hopefully a track day of some sort at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum PA. (That would be spring. We may also do a much-sooner get together just to meet.) If interested, check out the thread (and post)! :sun:

The north track awaits you... :dribble:

Thanks for all the replies.

I actually have a slight problem you guys might be able to help me with. On Saturday I had the car two days and i noticed there was a gouge in the sidewall of the passenger rear tire. I talked to my local tire guy and he said while its safe to drive on it should not have left the dealer like that. He also said it does no look fresh and I would have noticed hitting a pothole big enough to cause it(which i did not notice hitting any).

So I just took it to the dealer and they find it hard to believe it wasn't spotted by one of the service techs and they have no used tires to match my treadwear of that tire. They offered to pay half of a new replacement tire. The issue i have with that other then i feel they should cover the whole tire is that I'm pretty sure an AWD car should have all 4 tires more or less the same tread depth.

I asked the salesmen had they noticed this before it was sold what they would have done and he responded but caught himself before he finished saying they would have replaced all four tires. Any suggestion on how much tolerance there is on our AWD system for tread depth variance?

Here is the damage:

That sucks! How many miles are on the tires/car? Worst case scenario would be to replace both rear tires, but no need to replace all four. You may even be able to get by with just the one if there isnt too much tread wear already. I would first push the dealership to take care of it entirely if they want any future business.

There is 24,000 miles on the car. I am assuming these are the factory tires that came with it. I measured the tread with a caliper and came up with .211 inches, not sure what that comes out to in /32. maybe 6/32 or 7/32?

I have seen a few manufactures referenced online such as Subaru, audi and a few others mention that all tires should be within 1-4/32.

I really think you would be fine with new rears only. The AWD system is a 70/30 in that 70% of the drive is done by the front. You could call or email Ford directly to see what they suggest to be sure, but if it were mine I would go with two new rears and make the dealer pay for one plus labor. With only 24000 miles the difference would be negligible.

Either way that sucks that you have to deal with this so soon.

Wowww... personally I find that entirely unacceptable... to the point of being insulting. If you buy a car, even used, any reputable dealer will always provide a car with consumables that are that in good shape. Fresh oil, fresh tires, etc. Unless of course you knowingly paid for one heavily damaged tire.... and in my book, that is heavily damaged.

Sure... it might be possible to ride on them... but for how long? How long is it going to be before it blows out on you? What speed will you be travelling when that happens? Are they really so unconcerned with your safety??

Tell the dealer that it's unacceptable and that they need to fix it for you, at their cost, as they would have (and should have) done from the start. Going "halfsies" with you is just ridiculous. If the service department folks give you grief, talk to sales; if you don't make any progress, take it up with the general manager. If you still have no luck, take it up with the dealer principal and let him/her know that this is a huge breach of trust and confidence in them, and because of that, you will never ever buy a car from them again, get any service done by them, and will recommend to everyone that you know that they should avoid them ...if this isn't fixed.

Honestly, I'm just awestruck that they seem so willing to risk losing one or more long term customers over a matter of a $240 tire. That's asinine.

This just makes me realize how good I have it with my dealership. I've been their customer for over 20 years, and they have always treated me well. They don't do me any special favors or anything, but they certainly make sure that everything is done correctly, expediently, and always, always stand by their sales and their worksmanship. I've not once walked away from them feeling gypped. My worst case with them is when they couldn't duplicate a problem, but they put many hours into trying to duplicate it.

You're right I should be more upset about this then I am. I am going to call the salesmen today and give them the easiest solution which I feel is best for the car and that is for them to give me a tire off the other SHO they have there with 18k miles. As long as the tread is within 2/32 of my current tread I will be happy with that. If they don't want to do that ill have to work my way up the chain until I find someone that can make this work and possible four new tires. Because unfortunately I'm not going to risk ruining the differential because they want to only give me one new tire.

So it took talking to the GM to finally get them to cover the cost of the new tire. I called michelin and found out that a new mxm4 is 9.5/32 and my current tires are at 7/32 so its within acceptable range according to other manufactures such as Audi and Subaru for their AWD systems.

I think you got lucky. I zoomed in on your original pic of the pass rear tire and no mark there. The rim damage looks like you curbed it slightly or *** hole.

Oh no I took that picture on Sunday after I washed the car. I noticed the damaged tire on Saturday morning. So it is definitely in the first pictures even if you can't make it out.
