Time to get some chinese knock offs made, they'll be lighter!

do we know who the OEM wheel supplier is?

what is the wheel/tire combo? must be in the 55-60 lb range

33lbs for a 20x8" wheels is actually pretty good. I had some of the OEM 18x8.5" "Fanblade" style Mustang wheels on my Crown Vic for awhile and those wheels weighed 30+lbs each! I swapped them for my BBS's just because of the weight reduction, however, I would not get some chinese know offs because they will be much weaker and most likely not lighter. I know a forged BBS wheel is strong, otherwise I would stick with OEM wheels because of the rigorous testing they go through before being produced, so you know the quality is high.

And I believe those tires are about 26-28lbs each, so 60lbs a corner sounds pretty accurate.

chinese knock offs, tongue in cheek

33 lbs is reasonably heavy for a 8" wide wheel on a performance car. the 20" dia doesn't help because there's more "wheel" there, but 8" ain't that wide.

there are plenty of 9.5"-12" wide OEM and aftermarket wheels in the 18-20 dia range, from 19-27 lb. 33 lbs for a much skinnier 8" wheel is fairly heavy. Obviously the SHO is very heavy, so it has to have very stout dynamic load ratings...typically equals more wheel spoke material.

Will 17's clear the OEM brakes?

did we every determine how wide the wheels actually are? it should be stamped on the back of the wheel spokes...

The chassis engineer told me 8 inches on both the 19 and the 20. I told her ditch the 20 and make some 18 x 9.5s avialable . . .

Beefcake was that just the wheel, or the entire wheel/tire assembly? Thinking it was the former.

Wonder how wide you can go before you get into the struts or body work. gen1/2/3 were tire and wheel challenged...

Gotcha ;) My bad. Hard to tell jokes in text sometimes I guess.

Yes 17's will clear the brakes because the base SE Taurus gets 17"ers as standard equipment and the SHO has the same brakes.

With some lightweight 17's or 18's in the mid 20 lb range, would be closer to 50 lb's /corner. Saving 40 lbs. of rotating mass mgiht shave a couple of tenths in the 1/4.
