Hey Guys:

I did a search on this topic and came up empty.

I just finished all of the work on my semi-retired SHO and getting ready to put her up for the winter. I now have a low coolant level light in a constant on position. The overflow bottle is actualy overfilled slightly. When I replaced the radiator in early spring I replaced the overflow bottle but the float was obsolete so I had to reuse the old float. I tried cleaning the contacts on the plug but it didn't help.

Is there an easy solution? Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

You know that little tube that goes down to the overflow take? Well at the bottom of that there is a fork type thing-y and that usually gets corroded. It needs to be cleaned. Take a wire brush to it if you can, then see what happens :)

Hi Kevin:

Thanks for the reply. Are you talking about the black plastic piece that goes into the overflow tank which houses the float? I'll have to take a look at it but I don't remember a fork type thingy? Just a black plastic closed end tube with slots on the sides and a black float inside.

I'll pull it out and look for what you're talking about.

Thanks,

I finally got a chance to look at my SHO. I pulled the float assembly out and there was a flat blade type contactor on the float and a slot the blade went into that the plug connects to. It was not corroded hardly at all but I buffed the blade and cleaned the slot with scotch brite. Sprayed both pieces with contact cleaner and had to epoxy the thing back together because the tabs broke off of the float casing halves.

I'll give it a try in the next few days and let you know what happens.

Thanks for the help. beer

Hey Guys:

Just thought I'd give you an update on this. My "fix" did not work.

Anybody have any other ideas? shrug This float assembly is obsolete in the Ford parts system. What other vehicles use this style float assembly? Maybe I can hit a bone yard for this?

Thanks again for your help!!!!
