Looking for a softer ride

Hi,

It has been awhile since I have posted this site but I need some advice. First of all, I want to thank you for helping me solve my fuse blowing problem. Disconnecting the low coolant sensor did the trick. The car has not died or failed to start since I did that. What a simple fix.
As far as suspension goes, I am looking to replace the original springs and struts on our 94 SHO 3.2 with something less firm. My wife and I are getting older and still love the car, but want it to ride softer. I have tried lowering the tire pressure and that helps some but not enough for us. The car currently has 157,000 miles on it and I am the second owner. I have found replacements from A1 auto on line that says the spring strut combo will fit 94 Taurus as well SHO. Not sure this is the answer I am looking for. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Go to rockauto and get Monroe OE Spectrum or Sensatracs. Same strut just different names. They will give you the best ride /handling for what you are looking for.

x2 on Chad's advice. the sensatrac quickstruts will give you the standard Taurus springs (which are softer) and a slightly 'floaty' shock valving which sounds like what you are after.

I 3rd that suggestion. The best part is they'll be easy to swap out. Going with the quick strut assembly.

Funny, my 95 ATX, a very late build (4/95) had the slo springs and wimpy sway bars. I swapped the bars for 24/26 but kept the slo springs. I replaced all the bushings and struts are sensatracs. This car rides quite firm and response is very sharp.

My 90 with all new bushings, sensatracs and factory sho springs and 24/26 sway bars feels much more compliant and softer than the 95....I attribute this to the 215/65/15 tires vs the later 215/60/16.

Maybe look at higher profile tires. Could also if your open look at something plusher like a continental with the air ride....but that is another can of worms.

Actually, I spoke to Monroe about this two weeks ago. Turns out that the Monroe strut p/ns 71780 & 71781 over the years are about five different types of struts for the same part number, there is (in chronological order) Original Monroe, Sena-tracs, OE Spectrum, another kind, and the latest are Reflex. Since the part number is always the same, the only way to tell what the construction of the strut is, is by calling Monroe and giving them the date code stamped on the strut.
