What are you using for paint? Groundworks by ICI.. get the solvent based Porch and floor gloss enamel. It is the best, REALLY tough. It is a Polyurethane Alkyd Enamel :thumb:

I work for Sherwin-Williams, I know how 'tuff' that stuff really is. H&C FTW, S-W FTW.

How's next sunday, Oct. 5th work? I'll need a little venting after taking STOP class on the 4th.

.

i cant keep my mouth shut on this one..

How about in one single summer in 2003, I spent over 50 grand in paint in 4 months at SW, and that doesent include the HVLP and the 2000$ airless I bought from them. All I got from them is a stupid t-shirt that didnt fit me, and a puny 2.5" brush that only people who cant paint use..

Things slowed down in December, I showed up there around xmas with an old 5 gal bucket of Ben moore that I wanted mixed.. How about the guy refused to even put it in the mixer for me, because it wasnt SW paint.

Fu*k sherwin Williams.

PS. H&C is just above average stuff with a huge mark up.. Thanks to SW..

As far as that kind of stuff goes, SW does suck, I know it, my co-workers and managers know it. Anymore, SW has such tight pockets it's unbelieveable. NO OVERTIME WILL BE TOLERATEd signs all over the office, ther are no more T-shirts (Which are really good t-shirts, I don't know what's up with yours), our discounting abilities are COMPLETLY gone (we pretty much have to bend over back wards if we have to change price on ANYTHING), :blah::blah::blah::blah::blah::blah: more corporate BS....

I don't know about the BM paint shaking thing, we do it all the time, happily, as do the other stores in town. Some stores just plain have bad management. It isn't a policy that we don't shake your paint, they just chose not to.

I'm not going to argue price, because I know we're expensive, I know we have HUGE markup on EVERYTHING. That's part of the reason I quit (kinda), I can't take the ******** anymore. Three price increases in 8 months, 4% 2.5%, and the latest 8%!!! Next time you go to a box store look at the Minwax products' prices. Their prices are about even with our COST. Now add 30-45% margins. List price on their ~$20 product is a ~$45 product at our stores.

As for the sprayer, most of our sprayers come with some kind of rebate or gift package, usually a mail in $50-$100 rebate. It is based on the sprayer, but basically the more expensive sprayers have the better gifts (obviously). Most of the 'gifts' are accessories, tips, hoses, whips, jackets, wands, etc... Most guys go for the money anyway.

For the poor service, dont blame the company, blame the store and their management. Blame the price on the company. I'm sorry you didn't get adequate service, but don't assume that every store is that way.

oh and as for the markup, even with the 40% employee discount I could still buy cheaper paint at any box store. Some do have decent paint, and it's WAAAY cheaper. But ask a few people about the service at Home Depot and get back to me.

/rant

sorry for the inadvertant hijack of the thread I started

Joe no you don't. Not anymore.

I still work there, but only to close if I absolutly need to. Friday should be my last day for a long time. It's good and bad at the same time. We run a REALLY good store, good employees, great service, but Uncle Sherwin is bustin our balls.

oh, and when are we painting?!?!

I can't remember what I told Jason for a price, but with my discount I think it was around $50 a kit for 225 sq ft.
