-Maybe this is a little off topic but unlike the Taurus SHO, Ford has been on and all out media blitz promoting the new Edge ST. I've seen more Edge ST commercials in one hour then I saw in nine years of the Taurus production. Not only that but I actually got a marketing email from Ford just in case I somehow missed one of 200 commercials I've been forced to watch. LOL If I seem snippy its only because I truly believe had they gotten behind the SHO in the same way, we would not be saying goodbye to a car I am very fond of.
- So I know there not the same thing and I would rather have a SHO, BUT I got to be honest its going to be pretty bad ass crossover. From what I have seen its a 2.7 335 HP. with an eight speed, and AWD. which you may be able to switch to RWD. It also looks like Ford is thinking about taking things even further with an RS version, and if the Focus RS is any indication of what they have in mind she will be a beast.
- Setting aside a moment that we all love our SHO's and we don't want them to go away, and we all want a Gen5 SHO. Is the new Edge ST going to be the new SHO.

I think the fusion sport is the closest equivalent to the old SHO.
I don't actually agree with that because they never had the horsepower BUT even if I did they are going to stop making the Fusion also. My question really was about moving forward will the Edge ST be the car people who used to buy SHO's will drive.

No. It’s a suv. As said before the closest will be the fusion sport. Ford should still be making those for a few more years, 2022 I believe. Oh and the Fusion sport and edge ST have same 2.7 and pretty much same hp ratings.

Not really, the "track" record of an Edge with the 2.7L engine has yet to match that of the SHO (gen 4 or 5). At least a full second or more slower with comparable mods. Yes it is a nice/comfy/fairly fast CUV. But it is in no way to be mistaken for a SHO. Although the 2015-17 Sports do have an advantage the SHO does not (yet) have: a readily available, custom high-flow intercooler :D

- I understand what you are saying BUT that is not the question, the Fusion is a very nice car an similar to the SHO BUT there will be NO updates as of now they are going to stop making it. My question is about the future when you can no longer buy a new SHO or Fusion.

Good point that puts it into perspective, its slower then both Gen 4 an 5 but if they come out with an RS and it more then just a fancy badge it could catch up.
- Once again for the record I don't think its close to being as cool as the SHO, BUT in a few years the Edge ST or RS will be as close as you can get. Also I'm mostly just ****** I had to see all the Edge commercials knowing the SHO was going away.

Ya I empathize, LOL. But being an Edge owner, I waited a LONG time to see the 2015 Sport happen, putting it into contention as a true sporty ride. Still felt the 3.5EB would have done proper justice and some a**-whuppin' but the 2.7 is not bad at all. If you think the number of people committing to mods for the SHO is small, it is even smaller for the Edge Sport. Thankfully we have a small group that keeps pushing forward on their own time & dime, and have seen some great results.

The 3.0EB at least would be nice for the ST, but then there would not be a step up for the Nautilus.

I have trouble with the idea of a performance crossover. Local Alfa Romeo dealer invited me to test drive the Giulia and Stelvio. LOVE the Giulia - reminded me of why I liked the E36 and E46 3 series dynamics so much.

The Stelvio though was just ok. It certainly wasn’t as interesting or exciting to me as the Giulia. Not even close. Higher center of gravity different suspension geometry etc so that really shouldn’t be a surprise.

So I haven’t tried the Edge ST yet - but I have a tough time believing it’ll make sense as a SHO replacement in my garage.

I tend to agree with that statement BUT as ****** off at FMC as I am right now, looking around there does not appear there is going to be anything else I want to buy ether. I got spoiled with an AWD sport sedan, Since you brought up the Giulia that would be an awesome replacement but if you want a V6 AWD version its not affordable for most of us. The up side of the SHO being so unknown is the average person could afford a used one.

Kia Stinger GT AWD. That is your SHO replacement. I've never considered an import, but that car is pretty nice.

I agree. Have a buddy who is serious about one. If I wasn't dedicated to getting a 6-speed manual for my new ride next year, an AWD Stinger would be the choice, and I wouldn't even consider a 2019 SHO.

I'm not a CUV/SUV lover, as I don't need the space, and I want a track capable ride.

That said the Edge ST looks pretty good, and seems like a nice performance alternative for anyone who wants a four door Ford next year.

Suspension and steering decisions make a big difference to car handling, as we all know from the Gen 3 upgrade :D While still not in sedan category, it is rather impressive what can be achieved without active/automatic systems management. The downside? Usually a dearth of viable/quality aftermarket options.

To stay in the Ford family for 4 doors, AWD, and lots of H.P. I have my eyes on a Roush supercharged F150 that is lowered.

Lots of aftermarket following too.

Now 4x4 to me means on and off. AWD you can vary. A new torque on demand t-case can vary the torque output to the front wheels. The downside, I wouldn't drive the truck on the front shaft.

Carry on....

To me, real AWD/4x4 systems have N-S drivetrains, and are rear wheel biased. Why I liked my Legacy GT when I had it, and why the Stinger GT appeals to me.

If I wasn't interested in doing track days, the F150 option could be appealing. I got a friend of mine to get an F150, after a string of Explorers, and he loves it.
