Quick 'n Dirty method

Set e-brake and/or chock wheels.

Turn ignition switch to RUN without starting the engine.

Places shift lever in reverse.

Loosen MLPS bolts.

Have someone observe the backup lamps while the sensor is adjusted.

Tighten bolts and make certain the lamps are still working.

Close enough for guv'ment work.

The service manual has a procedure that requires a special tool. My method is probably as good.

You can actually do it yourself without the special tool. BTW, there are actually 2 adjustments that need to be made to ensure all is well.

Shift the transmission to neutral. Make sure the trans is actually in N and (at this time) disregard whether the shifter in the cabin indicates N or not. Set park brake, etc. and turn off engine

Remove the fastener that connects shift cable to trans shift arm. Remove trans shift arm. BE SURE the trans stays in N !

On top of the MLPS, there is an alignment mark for Neutral. Adjust MLPS as needed to make the alignment mark line up as it should.

Reinstall trans shift arm.

Position shifter in the cabin to N. Reconnect shift cable to arm, ensuring that both trans stays in N and that shifter stays positioned in N.

Enjoy!
