Hey guys and gals, is anyone interested in a get together in Tucson? Mike in Tucson is affiliated with SIR Southwest International Raceway and mentioned that the Southern Arizona Mustang Club is having a Race For a Cure weekend there on the 22nd of October. It benefits the Susan G Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.

See here: http://www.southernarizonamustangclub.org/

What does everyone think? I'm up for some drag racing in The Other Woman.

I'll make a trip to Tucson to see some SHO's if I have the weekend free. It's only 85 miles from Willcox and I think the garage queen 45K SHO is up to the trip.

Do I have to race the garage queen Gen I if I go to this meeting? I can't get used to the front wheel drive drag cars but some off these Hondas are very fast.

No, you don't have to race. Attendance requires a donation to the Foundation though I think. I probably won't race The Other Woman, really. I get scared at about 90, and start to think about how long it took for my last shoulder surgery to heal...

I've got to see this garage queen too. I'll bring cash.

I want to check out the SHO buggy. I haven't seen one with a SHO engine in it. No charges on looking at the garage queen although it is much happier in the garage. I might actually drive this thing to Laughlin, NV in November so that will make about 1000 miles for the year on it. I haven't done any drag racing in 15 years so I better just watch.

Mikey, you're hurting my feelings!! I see a couple of Gen I's around Phoenix from time to time. There's a white one out in east mesa and i just saw a titanium one at 40th and MC Dowell tonight. I got to start chasing them down to tell them about our great SHO establishment here in the desert. BTW.... you can't touch my GEN 1.... it has a polished bosch O2 sensor.... I don't know how much HP that's worth but it the car has been alot faster since Tom polished it.

you are no match for my 2 polished tranny bolts, one polished license plate bolt, and an abs computer bolt. Tom says he polishes 1 piece on every car when it is worked on at his place. My whole car should be polished by now.

Sounds good to me!

Meeting in Tucson sounds good to me and I'm pretty sure that I'm available for that weekend. I've got the room but no workshop at my place. I better clear it with my wife but we could meet here. I'm only about 10 minutes form the drag strip on Houghton Road.

Are all of the SHO guys going to be in one place at the drag strip in Tucson? I think I can make it up there in the late afternoon with the 1990 garage queen SHO.

I'm not going to be able to make it. I've stacked too many things on one weekend. Would still like to see that garage queen of yours though, someday.

If I can get a rough count, I can set up a SHO corral at the car show ( I think)..I'm in Vail about 15 min from SIR...saw 2 other SHO's this am..a burgundy Gen 2 on Camino Loma Alta at a new subdivision build site and another traveling North on Houghton from Sahuarita Road...any one out there??

BTW what is the advantage of getting your cams welded? Performance increase, cam reliability just curious.

Virg,

The V8 (GenIII) SHOs have a failure mode where the cam sprocket separates from the camshaft. Since that motor is an interference motor the result is catastrophic. Welding the sprocket to the camshaft prevents this from happening.

It's a non-issue for the SHO V6 engines.

It turns out that we will be celebrating my grandson's 5th birthday on Saturday so that leaves me out. I am looking forward to getting together again, hopefully soon

If I don't have to work that day put me down for two parking spots. The wife wants to go and she can drive the 1990 Garage Queen SHO. I have something else I want to bring and she will follow me up.
