The thing is he has no mufflers. I was also looking at his pics and judging from the looks of the exhaust tips, it seems like they just kept the pipe going from the muffler straight out the back. I would like to know if you do remove mthe mufflers, if it would be possible to weld the stock tips back on?

YES YES YES. The tips just neck down to a 2 1/2 outlet pipe that comes out of the muffler and is welded on the mufler. If you just run the 2 1/2" exhaust pipe back you can just weld the tip on to the pipe.

FWIW, a single Flowmaster Delta 40 will really choke off the exhaust flow. Flowmasters in general don't flow that well (ironic, huh?) and trying to cram all the exhaust through one of them will double the restriction.

I might go with a 50 series instead to make it more mellow.

nik97 that exhaust is awesome, i just want mine to not be quite as loud. and that intake video is even better!

What do you recommend for better flow and simular to slightly less aggressive sound than the DELTA Flow 40's.

I only know what I read in published materials (that's where I found that Flowmasters don't flow well) and the handful of cars I come in contact with at shows and other events, and of course sound is very subjective...

I know that almost everyone agrees that Borlas sound awesome on a V8 SHO, without being obnoxiously loud. They last forever too, and flow better than FM.

There is a brand called Bullet (not to be confused with the ricer-style fart-cannons) that makes a very nice stainless muffler that also sounds great on the V8SHO. They have quite a good reputation around the V8SHO community for quality and performance at a decent price. The "turbo" version is more aggressive-sounding than our stock mufflers, but still pretty mellow from inside the car. That's what I would personally go with if I was in the market for new muffs. Bullet also makes an open-chamber design is reportedly louder overall, but I don't know how it compared to a Flowmaster Delta 40. Don Mallinson is one retail source for them.

Here are some charts I've collected over the years:

(and here's the resulting thread with some additional info http://www.swdns.com/showthread.php?t=52541
I can't find the other one that had all the volume ratings... it was from Hot Rod magazine or something. I'll post the link when I find it. :thumb:

Yeah, Don sells those Bullet mufflers and tips too. He has tips that are almost identical to the SHO's factory tips but bigger. Oval, and have an angled slash cut as well. I had a picture from the mailing list but deleted the email to long ago to still have it. There freakin sweet though. :dribble:

I too have read about the quality of the Bullet mufflers, having the welds on the pipe rust through before the muffler had a speck of rust on it or something like that.

So what like muffler 214160 then? Is that pipe after the cat factory 2 1/4" or 2 1/2"??? Otherwise I could just spend the extra money and get two mufflers...

Mr. SHO what do you have?

2 1/2" This doesn't include the resenator pipe (Unless some one did some custom work on mine) which is much larger and runs from the 3rd CAT back almost the entire length of the main pipe just before the S bend.

I was thinking of an all together different aproach. My plan is to get rid of the 2 front cats and replace the 3rd cat with a high flow unit. I think I'd need some MIL eliminators, but otherwise seems pretty easy. Has anyone else tried this?

That is similar to my set up. I dont have any EGR crap or cats. I had my exhaust custom made at a exhaust shop 2 1/2" single form the Y pipe back until it splits into two. I wouldnt suggest taking out the front two cats...it doesnt sounds as good as it did before...just my .02. I only run 2 O2 sensors on my car as well...The SCT2 takes care of the codes for me...

I think he must have been talking about stock mufflers for that price...but the stock's come with new muffler bearings so they must be worth it....LOL:corn: :corn:

That reminds me, I need to list my old stock mufflers on eBay... what do you think, $750 a piece should be a reasonable starting price :D
