No, I'll NOT be wearing a kilt! :squint:

Personally, I'm off the friday before labor day all the way through the following wednesday. I usually go camping up north to Kneff Lake (best campground if you're into "real" camping) but I'll make an exception to have some good SHO folk camradarie. However, I'll not be talking car the whole time!

Let's start seeing what kind of interest there is for an extended peach festival/camping trip meet on Labor Day. I'm definitely down!

I need to talk to Willie, but I think his place would make a good tech meet.

Ok... I want to do peach festival and drive down to Maumee Bay and camp. What I need to know is how many people are honestly going to come. they have 3 different size lots, the smallest being able to fit maybe 3 9X9 tents comfortably. It doesn't have to be an exact count but farely close so I can shoot some lot prices and availability.

I will be able to go to the festival and down to Maumee, but I wouldn't be able to stay and camp out.

I'm good for camping, but I'll be flat out honest here. My camping is usually done up north, at Kneff lake, in the woods, where even if the campground is packed it's still secluded and quiet. That was my original plan for Labor Day, and I'm HAPPY to do Maumee Bay, but I'll be ticked if a bunch of people sign on to camp and I forego Kneff for just me and Jim at Maumee (no offense Jim!). So yeah, like Jim said... please speak up only if you're pretty dedicated to camping. If you don't want to camp, hey that's a-ok; if there isn't much interest in that we can just make it a day thing. And if the campers here really want a special camping trip (complete with lakes, canoes, rolling forests and pindrop-quiet nights) perhaps we can all venture up to Kneff... about 3.5 hours north of Detroit.

Jim, what kind of campsites are we talking about at Maumee? Nice and wooded or kinda open?

Perhaps Labor Day now deserves its own thread?

There are a little of both... some in wide open space right on a pond and there are some back by some wooded areas but there arem't any in a deep wooded area.

you can count us in for at least 2 night's of camping... Kid free!!!

everything else sounds good, were going to the Metro curise of course but that's local, I guess we'll ahve to see as things come up but I'm sure you can count us in for Christmas dinner too this year :thumb:

Bad news, I think camping at Maumee is going to be a bust.

Was just on their web site. Aside from being $27 a freakin night (that's almost motel costs!) they require a MINIMUM reservation of 3 nights for the Labor Day holiday. Sorry folks, but no way am I going to pay THAT much for sleeping in a tent... for that kind of money I could pay for gas up and back to Kneff Lake, stay two days and still come out ahead.

I'm really energetic about camping and a Maumee meet, but personally I don't see them happening together.

I was also trying to get more info on the peach festival car show... took me to a bum tripod page  Is this a decent sized car show? The Peach festival goes on all weekend but the show is just on Sunday apparently.

This is all kind of discouraging. I'd love to still do a meet & camp, maybe meet at Maumee and camp somewhere else? For anyone interested in a little road trip I'd be happy to introduce you to Kneff Lake. I've never found a better campground, and yeah it's a good 3 hours north of Detroit, but IMO, it's absolutely worth the drive.

Other options?

$27 a night for camping next to Lake Erie?????

Dude, thats down stream from Toledo, where my **** flows by. No way would I pay to camp there.:laugh_ti:
Maybe camping a few miles east from there would work out. That would put us right next to Davis Bessie, the nuke plant. Wouldn't need any flashlights, and cook the weiners with any long stick.

Maybe the Sterling State park just north of Monroe Mich as an alternative? (its downstream from Detroit):oogle:

Perry

I just remembered, Sterling State Park is right next to Fermi II. Good, it'll sterilize all the crap floating by from Detroit.

HAHAHA! We just can't get away from radioactivity and **** around here! Anywhere we go is fine with me... the part I was mainly looking forward to was the drive. That's one of the best parts of SHO meets is when you have a big group terrorizing the highway.

Well, if people want a little bit longer drive, Kneff is the sweetest NON-raidoactive campground around. From the Peach festival it's about 2.5 hours north, straight up I-75. If people want me to set this up I'd be HAPPY to make the arrangements. Last year it was $10/night and the sites are thickly wooded and HUGE. Small private spring-fed lake, some of the best sceninc canoeing to be had in the state is about 6 miles away. For anyone wanting a little vacation over Labor Day it would be schweet.

.....how come all this stuff's being planned for the east and central side of the state? Are there not enough of us West Siders to make something happen, or is it just that boring over here?

Metro cruise is up in GR.

Besides that, wasn't the NATIONAL CONVENTION just there? For four days? Doesn't get any bigger or better than that in the entire country

So yeah, OH and east side are due.

Detroit Dream Cruise-I'd love to make it, but I'm becoming a west-sider and will be at orientation and moving in that whole week. On the plus side, I have no reason to miss the Metro Cruise in GR.

The Peach Festival does run all weekend, I think. I've never actually done anything else there besides the car show (which is just Sunday). The show is pretty big. I'm not good with guessing numbers, but about 200 +/-. It's in the parking lot and on the grass at the Romeo Ford engine plant, so lots of Mustangs. I've never done the planned cruise.

Lapeer dragday-I will be there!

I don't think I'll be able to do anything in Ohio.
