Back in Michigan ... again.
Ok GLSS'ers, it's been fairly quiet around here, national convention not withstanding. I take full responsibility; I haven't been making our group the priority that it should be and that's all about to change. Gas prices have dropped at little around here, so how about we close out 2007 with a blast?

Here's what I have in mind thus far, and I'd love some discussion:

Woodward dream cruise, August 18th (and the week leading up to it) Detroit MI

Romeo Peach Festival & car show, Labor day weekend as suggested by Kate, Romeo MI (Detroit area)

Meet @ Willie's, mid-late September (Lima OH)

Maumee Bay mid-late October (Maumee Bay OH)

CHRISTMAS DINNER, Quaker Steak & **** in OH.

This is a tentative schedule... thoughts?

Personally, I think Maumee would be better done earlier in the year. In October we're bound to have more rain and colder days and with the area being basically unsheltered it could turn out to be miserable for folks who come. Keep in mind also that the state park might close during late fall/winter months. Before anything is written in stone date wise we should check their schedule.

IMO, August would be ideal for Maumee. And we all know that meets arranged at the last minute generally have the best turn out. :) For our club anyway.

What date is labor day? I will take care of finding out about Maumee Bay. I think an overnight camping thing would be fun. I wonder if I could find somewhere to set up and autocross course or maybe a trip down the road to Norwalk (Summit Raceway Park).

I'll be at Woodward on the 18th.. everthing else is too early to plan but I'll work it out!

** EDIT** Grand Rapids also has the Metro Cruise that could be squeezed in there somewhere if you wanted to, It's also in August but I havent heard anything else about it.

Well, I'm certainly not opposed to all the above, however I am concerned about trying to do too much at once. The schedule above has something going on approximately once a month. If people are interested in staying that busy then let's make it happen, but I'm really concerned about getting things rolling only to have a couple people make each event.

I'm all for doing Maumee earlier, Labor Day would be ideal but to be honest we'd have to bail totally on the car show in Romeo. I suppose we could do a double header, car show sat, Maumee sun, and if anyone wants to camp make it sun-mon. ****, I'm off that week until wednesday, I'll camp the whole time  How crowded would Maumee be on that weekend?

The EOSB that Todd mentioned is also a possibility. It's a Contour event but if there's some SHO interest speak up!

Willie talked to me at the convention and offered to host a meet down at his place, keep that around late September or possibly early October? That would certainly keep us busy!

Also, this isn't necessarily a club thing, but Michelle and I will be going to the Silverleaf Ren Faire in Battle Creek on August 4th, if anyone wants to go along and see what it's like we'd love to have you along :)

EDIT:: Beth, I'd LOVE to do another Muncie meet. Perhaps next year?

I think rolling Romeo and Maumee Bay into one weekend is an awsome idea! Imagine how fun the 1.25 hour drive back down to T-town will be with a decent group of SHO's.

Maybe Frankenmuth car show in September? Cars there need to be 25 years old, so the SHOs will have to stay in the parking lot.
How about having Christmas dinner in Ft Wayne?
I'll be at Woodward for sure, need to check in with some old friends in Royal Oak.

True 'dat Todd :thumb:

I love all the suggestions but we should try to keep focused, obviously there will be event going on all over the place but I think it would make for a better turnout/quality if we stick to a couple per month.

In the past year or so we've typcially done more events towards the west side, and with the convention being there this year I'd like to keep things more towards the east and down in Ohio (which has really been neglected in the last couple years). I would encourage the west siders that can't make the drive to check out the metro cruise, that is definitely a good time.

Jim, Labor Day weekend is the 1st-3rd. I'll say right now that I'm not interested in any racing, I REALLY need time away from cars and tracks so I hope Maumee is a nice, quiet campground :)

So what do people think of this schedule?

Woodward cruise (pretty much a must IMO, the largest cruise in the world!) Aug 18th

Labor Day
Peach Festival in Romeo w/ the car show, followed by the cruise to Maumee and camping.

EOSB in SE MI Sept 8th

Meet @ Willies late Sept, Lima OH

Drag day @ Lapeer, mid October (with the TCCA guys)

Christmas Dinner Ft. Wayne.

When is the metro cruise in GR?

Opinions?

I WILL be camping this fall...so a camping meet sounds like a wonderful idea. Sitting around the fire...telling SHO fish tales...

Also, a tech meet would be nice(might need serious planning though).

I also think the romeo peach fest is a really good idea and I'm planning on going anyway.

so what day's would you be camping? I think it look's good and we'll try to make as much of it as possible. if we try to push too much in one month I think we'll loose more ppl do to extra cost of 3 event's in a month so I dont think we shuld try to squeeze to much in. here's info on the metro cruise if anyone in GLSS is interested in meeting up there. We had an awesome time last year with a good amount of cars. http://www.oldride.com/events/2453068.html Like I posted before were going to Silver leaf too so I hope to see you there Chris ( in a kilt maybe :naughty:)
