On a case of smoke alot of people jump to conclusion, like valve stem seals, headgaskets, pistons rings etc. Check the easy stuff first, catalytic converters, mufflers, other small simple fixes.

Ok I read all the post and no one said anything about blue smoke up when down shifting? Rings, valve stem seals or something simple. I tore the 3.0 down to the wear the valve covers are off today and here is what I found. The lower intake was pretty carboned up as well as the upper intake. The valves looked ok but again carboned up viewing them from the intake ports. The front bank inside the valve covers was cleaner than the rear. The rear was quite a bit darker by a couple of shades but not bad. Any input would be appreciated. It is a 92 MTX and burns a quart every 500-700 miles.

So clean the intake, throw two bottles of Auto-RX through it and enjoy.

Got that, just wanted to know if anyone could tell me if there is any reason why the car will puff blue smoke when down shifting. I believe it could be a ring or valve seal but it there is anything else I can check first that is what I am looking to do. If it is a ring , is there any product I could put in the fuel or oil to maybe solve the problem? I did run Mobil one in the car and went back to Castrol no synthetic 2 oil changes ago. The car has just over 100K. The problem is not new to the oil change.
