I have a 1993 SHO and I'm doing the 96 upgrade to the front brakes. I'm going to a local junkyard today to get the knuckles and calipers. I went yesturday and they are off of a 94 Regular Taurus with ABS. According to this list these calipers will work and also the knuckles from this car.

********SPINDLE(KNUCKLE)/HUB ASSEMBLY********
94/95 TAURUS/SABLE/SHO with ABS
93/94 CONTINENTAL

*****CALIPERS*****
94-07 TAURUS/SABLE/SHO
95-02 CONTINENTAL
93-98 MARK VIII

I know the bracket is different and rotars and also the pads but I just want to make sure I can use the knuckles and calipers before I go and lay in mud for an hour. Thanks

Sounds like the knuckles and calipers you have your eye on are correct.

You need 94 or 95 taurus(for sure...100%) OR windstar knuckles(for sure...90%).

Calipers from the same car for now...and you can go to larger rotors if you have the correct caliper brackets...FN74 should be embossed on the bracket.
One word of advice....

Knuckles that are sitting in a junk yard for a while WILL have bad wheel bearings...especially if the axle is gone when you get to it...

Take your new(old) hubs/knuckles and have them sandblasted...paint them with some caliper paint and have new bearings installed.

Buddy,

Have you removed the spring pertch guards from the front struts? It was only put on the 93s. It will limit your tire options, slightly.

You will probably need to replace your stabilizer bar end links. Get the ones for a 95 windstar...they will be steel, not plastic.

I think I know what perch guards you are talking about and no I haven't removed them because I plan on getting new springs and struts in the future and the 18's I have right now fit with no problems.

Anyways I went to the junkyard today turns out I was so dehydrated yesturday I failed to notice it was a sable, but comparing it to the 95 taurus that was laying on the ground it looked to be the same so I took the whole setup off the passanger side of the sable. The drivers side I didn't start on it was raining on me the whole time and it's not a fun job to do in the mud.. The wheel bearing "hopefully" is good? I don't think the caliper is frozen either the car I got it from didn't seem to be rusted that bad.. not as bad as my SHO.

I'll see how much new wheel bearings are maybe I'll do what you said and put new ones in, not sure how much it would cost to get them sandblasted I was just going to try to sand them up and clean them and paint them myself? lol maybe..

Thanks for the help I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Will the pertch guards be in the way of the rotars?

The stabilier bars they sell them in steel for the SHO at autozone or allied. Will they have to be from a windstar or will SHO stabilizer links work fine? Thanks

Yes, the Sable parts are the same 94/95.

If they're not asking too much for the struts and springs, it might be easier to unbolt the lower control arm, unbolt the strut and walk away with the entire assembly. If you decide to get koni's, you could use those strut housings. That would only take a few minutes of time. Did you take a pry bar with you to pop the lower control arm out from the spindle? It'll make the job so much easier.

You bet I used a prybar... I dont have any I actually found 2 bars there one was a small red jack handle and also one of those one size lug nut taker offers... with like a flathead on other end to take off center cap. (Took them home with me) I brought a 2X2 piece of wood cause that is my only prybar I own lol but I got it out with about 10 mins of playing with it. I took off the passanger side and that one was easy because the strut was allready out.. The drivers side is still on it so I'll have to take it out of the spindle. Is my shock setup different then a 94/95 setup in my 93?

I'm going to get the drivers side a nice day this week. Maybe bring a friend for help that's always needed... I'll keep posting in this forum as I do the project, maybe it will help people in the future ;) Thanks for the help guys :thankyou:
