what could this be? For a while now once and a while(probably once a week) when it was stone cold in the morning it would bog on the takeoff once and not very badly and as soon as I went through the gears once it would be fine. Now all of a sudden I go to work this morning and it boggs badly and I mean badly. I went to give it some gas at about 3grand and it fell flat on its face and didn't pick up any steam until it strugled to get to 4grand and then the secondaries opened up. It took a solid 5-10seconds to get from 3-4grand. On the way home it did the same but it didn't seem as bad but I def. notice a lot of power loss. What could it be cam sensor, clogged cat, or something totally different?

I'm experiencing a similar problem with my 93k mile 1989.
You can feel the slugishness at all speeds and rpm's.
On a cold start the idle would dip and almost stall, then return again to normal.
And it use to stall with the AC on when stopped.
And I belive it sounds more 'hissy' underhood, like a vacuum leak would cause.
Otherwise it runs smooth and quiet with no missfires or backfiring.

I just had it at Ford today.
They could not find the problem and said the next step is a compression check or to check each individual sensor.

They did the following checks :
Proper secondary operation (I could tell it was ok),
Fuel pressure (stated good pressure at the schrader valve),
Exhaust back pressure (for possible clogged cats),
Vacuum leaks (none, but they did tighten the intake tube clamps and claim it solved the stalling with the AC on),
Checked for codes (none and no check engine lamp).

So $170 and 3 hours later ... the same problem.

A mechanic friend says the piston rings (for low compression) would not cause my problem.
He guessed it may be a coil pack not up to *****.
I'm no expert but my guess is a sensor.

Anyone solve a similar problem?

Mine also bogs and feels sluggish through the gears (ATX). Sometimes it'll backfire as well. The only code I got was a 327 - DPFE voltage to low. I changed that out today...same issue.

I had the same problem when I first got my SHO. Check the fuel filter. My car was bogging, so I changed the fuel filter. That fixed the bogging, but then it just didn't feel like the power was there. Cleaned the MAF and it felt like a whole new car. So you just did the opposite of me.

Hope that helps

minus the pinging. It's probably my coil pack or wires. Sucks if it's the wires, since those are only a couple months old.

Does your car have an EGR? If it does, check to make sure that the "nostrils" in your intake aren't plugged.

You dont have an EGR... Unless it was a california car.

Only MTX cars from cali had an EGR system. All ATX's had them though.

i noticed the same problem on my 93 MTX. Never had this problem before till recently. WHat i did was put some CHem tool cleaner in the tank (2 cans, twice the reccommended amount) and then finished out the bad tank. Now the car runs fine. Mine would kinda buck in the morning on a cold engine. Oh course this is a fuel/spark issue. My soultion= old car at weird. My AC sometimes just shuts off when im driving, the whole screen just turns off.

I ran a cylinder balance test and it showed that cyl 3 and 5 are not firing properly. So, I pulled the plug and saw that there was a little bit of oil on top of the plug, but bone dry near the seal. The bottom of the plug is black though. A carboned up mess. Anyway, I know what to do, just an update.

Changed the plugs, world of difference. Still a bit of a bog, but now it's ultimately tuning. I'm ordering the chip this weekend.
