Do these flash? I was under the impression they were cornering/courtesy lamps that stay on steadily when the headlights are on and the respective side's turn signal is activated. My old Lincoln had the same thing. The inspection station is telling me they have to flash and I don't have an owner's manual to reference at the moment.

Thanks!

Tried searching, no luck.

my 89 has them too, with headlights on if you signal to turn right, right hand side lamp comes on, lights up alot to the right, and the right hand flasher above next to the headlight continues to flash, until the turn is finshed and then the flasher stops and the light goes out. same for the left. The turning lamp you are talking about does not flash!

Correct. The light lower on the bumper is just a side light to light up the direction you are turning. If it blinks there's something wrong. The inspector has rocks for brains.

Thanks all!

Does anyone know where the correct operation details might be printed? The owner's manual doesn't say. I suppose I can print this page and argue with them, as a last resort :woo-hoo:

They are designed to come on with the turnsignal.
They light the direction you are turning.
