You guys were driving me nuts with your 12 second machines. Thanks to you I bought a 2015 PP yesterday. I went to the dealer to get a 2014 as I didn't even know the 15's were out yet. There were only a few 15's within a 250 mile radius but I got the one I wanted. Big grin driving all the way home. Been many years since the fun times with my '89.

Welcome to the community, and congrats on your '15 SHO! Kinda hard to keep your foot out of it, and even harder when you "bring it up to speed" :)

What color & options did you get? Details on your '89 also please.

That's awesome, anything new about the '15 you can tell us about?

I get the point. On the way home from the dealer, the SYNC girl kept repeating a subliminal message that went like "I'm going to get you a speeding ticket".

As far as I know, I got all options except the massaging seats. Blk on blk. The option lists changed slightly for 2015 as 20" are now standard.

Details on your '89 also please.

Most fun car I remember having. Had 2 different chips, can't remember the first one but the second was made by a member on the forum from Louisiana. Don't remember his name either. Also exhaust and MAS. Long time ago, I can hardly remember yesterday.

Don't know much other than 20's are standard now without the PP.

My only concern was that something in the 2015 ecu design would prevent a tune.

Probably I'm being just a pessimist.

Congratulations! ...and I wouldn't worry too much about the ECU being un-tunable. It'll probably take tuners a little bit to work out the specific tuning for it, so your first miles might just be tune free... for now.

As far as Ford making the ECU unable to accept new tunes, here's the only ways they could possibly handle that:

  • Make the ECU read-only. This would require physical replacement of the ECU if it turns out that a software update is required to correct a problem. This is considerably more costly to Ford than hooking up a computer with software that the dealerships pay good money for. I really don't think that's terribly likely. In fact, it'd be a downright stupid business decision. Besides, even in that case, with a read-only chip, it can be reverse engineered and replaced with a duplicate with different tuning.
  • Allow the ECU to accept new data, but encrypt the ECU's communications or some form of gateway protection (e.g. password protection or other challenge/response scenario when hooking up to it.) This would allow the programming to be updated by Ford's servicing software (as well as Ford licensed 3rd party devices), while keeping out the plebs. However, that's a short lived scheme, since no matter how complex, software systems are all inherently reverse engineerable (as are hardware systems for that matter), so it might keep the first few months of a vehicle line tune free while the hax0rs are at it, but that's about all. It wouldn't even be worth the effort - unless someone sold the powers that be on the idea, and they thought it'd be worth it in the end - but ultimately, you can't control people's behavior, and any modifiable system is ultimately hackable. (Trust me on this, <-- Software engineer.)

Ultimately, it's probably not an issue... they'd be dumb to try to forcibly stop people. If tuning is harmless, then there's no worry for them (in fact it's good business if people can get more vroom for their buck)... if it's not harmless, then they get to sell new parts to people who did it. Where's the upside for them in trying (in vain) to prevent it altogether? I can't see it... ;)

Anyhow... I wouldn't worry about it. I'm quite sure the tunes are a comin'. Enjoy the new car!! :)

Congrats!

I see they have some new colors for 2015. There is a cinnamon one on eBay right now.

Yeah, nothing really major in changes in the 2015 SHO's. Few color changes as already mentioned but the car is pretty much a 2014 model. The next model year will be the one to get. :naughty:

My fears have been realized. I got the SCT X4 and find the 2015 calibration is new and not in their database. Now it's a matter of anxious waiting.

What did Torrie have to say? Pretty sad that they would change the calibration for the 2015 since they just did it for the 2013!

He will submit the data (bef file) I pulled to sct so the calibration can be added and then he can build the files.
Impatience is my nature. Basically a little kid waiting by the xmas tree.
