So I looked and drove a 2011 Taurus SHO with 95K on the clock.
Since it had 95K on the clock I did expect to see some signs of wear on the inside and outside.
To my surprise the car was almost flawless. The inside IS flawless. I could not find a single sign of wear.
The outside only had 2 minor issues. The front grille is black and had a few chipped areas. Looks like the grille can easily be re-painted. The second issue was around the trunk area where suitcases left minor scratches on the paint. No big deal to me. Also noticed the tail lights edges where the chrome is chipping off. I read they all do this.
For the rest the outside looked amazingly well for a 95K car. Better than I have seen on ANY car with that many miles on it.

So, on to my questions. First of all, 95K and what seems to be very well maintained. Records for service are there. I drove it quite a bit and it drove well, braked well, acceleration is as it should (great).
I did notice a 'whoosh' every time I got off the throttle. Is that normal ? Seems a waste gate releasing pressure from the turbos? I have not driven other SHO's models so I do not know if this is normal. As far as I know car is bone stock.
Guy wants around 17k for it. I can get him down a bit more I think. It does not have the navigation, no moonroof.

What say you, oh wise SHO forum people ?

Find out what extended warranties are in place, and is this a private sale, or through a dealership.
You are missing 2 important options, especially from a price and desirability point of view.
Rule of thumb is half price in 3 years, this one is five years old, and not low mileage.

I would ask him if he disconnected the blow off valve tubes. The noise you are describing is very similar. Chances are, if he did disconnect them, he was driving the car pretty hard. The only reason I say that is because he disconnected them to get the tuner "whoosh" noise of the blow off valves. It's likely he was running it wide open throttle a fair amount of the time.

Interesting responses. It is from a small dealer, sorry forgot to mention that.
What would be a normal price for the miles/year?
Also, it really does NOT look like it was driven hard. Good to know the whoosh noises are normally not heard.

If they have not already given you a CarFax, then pm me the VIN and a real email address and I'll get you one.

$17k is about the NADA number for clean trade currently, so it appears to be a good price if the history is good. (note that these cars are going for a little under the book currently, at least in our area.)

Thank you so much for the offer. I did see the carfax. It showed a lot of dealer visits for maintenance, oil changes, etc..
But.. It did also show an accident, shows as damage to rear. No other detail on that. Perhaps you can still take a look at the carfax ? I will PM you.

Figure in the costs of 100K maintenance: spark plugs, PTU fluid R&R, trans fluid drain & fill, RDU fluid R&R, coolant flush, brake fluid flush, power steering flush, shocks/struts, tires/TPMS sensors etc. if they haven't been done in the last 30-50K miles. If you want the car to last, you will have to do all this likely within the coming year.

Yes, I can do those things myself. I figured I'd do all fluids right away. Tires are very good on it. Probably 80%

You can probably get half the miles for $20K? I'd offer $13K. I bet they would take $15K.

That's a lot of miles. I personally couldn't do it unless it was $12K or so. Then I'd drive the **** out if it until the wheels falled off. Nice thing with an older car is you can start doing extensive mods and not give a crap since there is no warranty. I do miss that feeling.

I paid 15 for my 11 with 102,000 miles. It's a white on black pp car with moonroof, nav, active seats and good to excellent condition. So far performed factory spark plug replacement, serviced all fluids including ptu and had a alignment done. Next is tires in a few months. It's a 1 owner car with decent service history and no accidents. For the market I am in I felt comfortable with this purchase. Also I purchased this from a ford dealer. They wanted 18,999 and got them to 15,000 just took walking out and giving them a day to come down to a point I was comfortable with.
