That is my first best guess also. The ICP, the "football", is known to go bad and cause a parasitic draw. It may function correctly but, something has gone bad in it.
When ICP's go bad, is it possible to replace w/ an ICP from a non-SHO assuming you can find one in a junkyard? Also, are there differences in which ICP years are compatible? That is my first best guess also.
"Also, are there differences in which ICP years are compatible?" I've owned MYs '96 through '98. The '96 & '97 harness connections are different from the '98's (I assume '99s are the same as '98s). The electrical system as a whole changed between '97 and '98, and the ICP is one component of many affected. When ICP's go bad, is it possible to replace w/ an ICP from a non-SHO assuming you can find one in a junkyard? This echos what I thought I remembered from years gone by. This part failed alot on these cars. The '96 & '97 harness connections are different from the '98's (I assume '99s are the same as '98s).
