Smoking through exhaust at first cold start up

My 91 SHO when I got in late August didnt eat any oil or smoke through the exhaust on a cold start up.

Well it has begun to exude oil smoke when doing the first cold start and I dont think its all the time, more periodically

I know from previous experience its prob the valve guides leaking. Since this is just started to happen, is there any additives that I can add to the oil to hopefully help the situation

I dont plan on redoing the valve guides

As you know, you had this discussion going over on Facebook. Give the Lucas a try, and at least get one long trip with it, where it gets good and hot.

If you have never had the top end apart, there is a good chance that the exhaust valve stem seals are cracked and broken. The way the lifter cups fit down around the valve spring means that the stem seals can be gone and the engine won't smoke noticably when running, but at startup you can get a puff. I have had several of these engines apart where the exhaust valve stem seals are just gone - if that is your situation all the Lucas in the world won't help it. But it doesn't cost much to try it.

I concur. Are these seals still available. I know you can keep the heads on to do the work. A bit tricky. I'd rather remove the heads my self and take the heads to a shop
