And the price is right!

I am amazed a car can only have 60 some K after 22 years of service?

Just in case anyone is interested, Gillman Honda in Texas had the silver one listed in the first post until last week for only 4950, makes we wonder how much the seller even has into it.. When Gillman had it listed they had a free CARFAX with it, car has records in Cali up through 35 K miles, then a 9 years of nothing, no entries, then around 50-60 K in Texas.

Also a 49 K mile silver automatic 95 garage queen in the Phoenix area sold for under 4 K last week, that one had a sunroof FWIW. Sperold if you want a silver mint condition one in Canada drop me a PM.

I am always tempted by things like this, demonstrated by having 3 SHOs, plated and insured, at this moment. But luckily, my resistance is high right now.

But thanks for thinking about me.

The V6 (Gen I & II) SHO engines are bullet-proof.
The manual transmission is at its limit and can be broken (usually 3rd gear), but is by no means frail.
The differential pin can work loose and come through the casing.
Almost every used manual transmission car needs a throw out bearing or a clutch.
The automatic transmission (93, 94, 95) is at its limit and often needs a soft rebuild, usually right after your buy it.

The V8 (Gen III) has the cam failure problem.
These cars are automatic only and usually the automatic needs a soft rebuild.
These cars have a 1-piece floor stamping, which results in a very stable platform with a "solid" feeling.

You asked about mechanical, but you should know that there was a recall on subframe parts (latest discussion) that corroded if exposed to salt. Strut rods are a weak (and nuisance) area in the suspension, usually remedied by going to a Gen III setup.

DEC 16, 1998 | Recall ID# 10224 Hide Details

Recall Reason STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS
Recall Date DEC 16, 1998
Model Affected TAURUS
Potential Units Affected 2697000

Recall Summary
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, KANSAS, KENTUCKY, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEBRASKA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, VIRGINIA, WEST VIRGNIA, AND WISCONSIN. THE REAR LOWER SUBFRAME MOUNT PLATE NUT CAN EXPERIENCE STRESS CORROSION CRACKING IF SUBJECTED TO LONG TERM EXPOSURE TO ROAD SALTS. THIS CAN RESULT IN FRACTURE AND LOSS OF THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE SUBFRAME MOUNT ATTACHMENT. DETACHMENT OF THE BODY MOUNTS AT THE REAR CORNERS OF THE SUBFRAME, WHICH SUPPORTS THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION, ALLOWS THE REAR CORNERS OF THE SUBFRAME TO DROP.

Consequence
IF BOTH REAR CORNERS DROP, STEERING WOULD BECOME SUDDENLY VERY DIFFICULT, AFFECTING VEHICLE CONTROL AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL SUBFRAME REAR MOUNT BOLTS, REINFORCEMENT PLATES, AND PLATE NUTS.

FORD MOTOR COMPANY 98S36

Since the thread is about a 95 SHO automatic . . . that hasn't been driven much - have looked over a couple of these over the last several months, and both had leaking input shaft seals. One of them only had 32 or 35 K miles. When cars don't get driven things like seals start to dry out, shrink, exposed metal on the shaft then rusts, then someone buys the car, gets it running, seals warm up/swell (if they aren't cracked) and are then riding on rusty metal. Not sure the recall issues above would apply to the car in question, but then no one knows where it spent 9 to 10 years of its life.
