You can get those strips in stainless steel/no rust form from '86-'91 Taurus LX if you can find one. Looking at them on an LX, they don't look the same, but after getting them apart from the panels you will see they are.

1. come out west and find a rust-free car.
2. enjoy working on a car where you can actually just remove a bolt when you want/need.
3. enjoy driving a car that has no extra "air conditioning" openings under it.

Before you invest in new doors, you should really pull the lower cladding. If the doors are missing metal there, your rocker panels are probably non-existant.

Would be a shame to spend money on doors when the rest of the chassis is much further gone.

Unless you venture into certain parts of North Carolina. Especially underneath the cars that come from the mountains. Not all, of course, but it's been some personal experience.

Your doors look pretty good in the pictures. That metal part in the cladding is the first thing to go.
I took the steel rusty parts off the door as they were making a mess with the rust drips.
I pinned the cladding back on the door with stainless screws and bought decorative door guard strips (comes in a role) from NAPA.
No more rust drips.

I have all 4 red doors, but I'm far from you. I had a courier before, that I used for things like that, but I didn't call him for a long time.

The color doesnt really matter. Whole car is getting a fresh coat of paint after some small applications.

There are plenty of rust free ones out there, a far better choice. I would not throw away money on a new paintjob over any rusty undercarraige
