Hey everyone,

Ever since i brought my car back to Michigan from California... the idle from the cold has been off..
I reset it.
But now its gotten a lot worse.
When starting up, it will go from 1.5k rpms to 250.. or stall, and keep bouncing on the tach. After about 10 minutes of idling and going it will smooth out.
When i'm driving it, and i push in the clutch and don't shift right away- from any gear- 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd.. ect-
it stalls.

What do you guys think i'm dealing with here? VSS? IAC?

Also, I could use a new idler pully... I bought one from Advanced Auto and its a plastic peice? doesn't look like the right thing. Its made by Dayco.
Eh.

Thanks

Bret

Sounds like a Vacuum leak. Otherwise, disconnect your MAF while the car is doing it, if the idle gets better either clean or replace your MAF. Or...Just check the codes.

As far as the idler pulley, Take a look at that 25k Mile 91+ ( ) and compare the idlers. Should tell you right away if its the right part.

It never happened... so, we can drop that subject. My father I do not keep in touch with. He received the car... I'm not sure exactly how many miles were on it. So. Yeah, it is ********. Never happened. I dont have it, nor have I not seen it since 2004

Smart Ass ;). Now ISO real answers

Thanks Samuel.

Def. sounds like a messed-up IAC. Unplug the MAF to make sure that isn't it (if it doesn't get any better when you unplug it, that isn't it), then clean the IAC. If cleaning it doesn't fix it, replace it.

Thanks!
I bought this IAC thats currently on it from Autozone back when I first got the car... in November. I replaced the motor and freshened it up...
It stayed on it. after less than 8 months? it could already be bad?

What would cause it to die when I'm driving at 50 mph and pushing in the clutch- if i dont shift within a second or two... if i'm slow it will die.

Thanks

That is most definitely the IAC - it stays open at highway cruise to allow idle air to get to the engine in the case that you snap the throttle plate shut.

Where do you think your Autozone IAC is made in? If you guessed China, you're right. Guess what Chinese QC is like. You should be happy the IAC lasted 8 months; many people get bad IACs right out of the box.

Never, ever, ever assume new parts are good. Ever. I fix avionics for the Navy, and I have ordered $300,000 ICs that were bad from the factory; how can you think your $37 IAC from China is going to work every time?

Haha
Good point bud.

We'll ever since I hit the cold weather here in Michigan... early January is when it started having weird idle issues.
So you guys rule out that its not the MAF or the VSS?

I've replaced just about everything on this ******* car. Why the **** did I buy another one of these? haha

Thanks

+1 for the IAC. I got a bad one out of the box from Autozone last year. Ended up cleaning and reinstalling the old one, and I haven't had a problem since.
