Hey guys, I just recently discovered a white on mocha 94 SHO at my cousins shop (he wholesales cars) and I've decided to buy it. This wouldn't be my first SHO, I've had two others, both were 93's and both were green but none of them had this many miles on it. I was just curious as to what I need to check maintanence wise. I already know it needs to motor mounts.

If it is a mtx look for holes in the trans case.

Hes got ATX in the title.

The usual 60k stuff, check for fluid leaks, change the transmission fluid regardless of how it looks. Fuel Filter too, its cheap, and you'll know its been changed. Check the metal brake lines for corrosion.

I'm sure much more can be added...

I was told by a Ford mechanic today that if I need to change any gaskets or anything that i might as well take the pan off and check the bearings and shims. Would that be relevant or a waste of time?

Rod bearings do typically need replacing somewhere between 100k and 200k, earlier if mtx, the atx is not so ******* rod bearings - but yes, that is good advice if you want to keep it on the road.

The 94/95 atx were significantly stronger than the 93, so a fluid change should have you all good in that department.

There are guys on this forum w/ over 400k miles on their SHO, so you have a lot of good miles left in there....

Great points, and agree with everything you said... But I would run like redline ATF, as it will help with heat.

Take a good look at the water pump. All my used SHO's eventually needed an alternator, a starter and a battery. Throw in some rad hoses as well. Buy 'em on sale and wait them out. When you do the water pump, put the timing belt in at the same time.

x2 on the brake lines!! That is a real PITA job if its needed... look under the fluid resivour for a block that has 3 lines passing thru it, thats where the rusty lines will happen first.
