Symptoms: when in 1-4th gear there is a grinding noise that comes and goes. it does it hot or cold. also when the clutch is not pressed at all and the car is in neutral there is a loud grinding noise. when i here the grinding i can always feel it with my right hand on the shifter. it feels like something is loose in the shifter itself. it's almost like the gears are trying to engage even while in neutral.

ideas?

Sounds like what my '95 did when its t/o bearing went bad. It actually burned its way through a couple of the pressure plate "fingers" (doesn't quite seem right to call them with the SHO's PP design), and nicely blued the rest of them.

Seconding a throwout bearing that whittling away your pressure plate fingers.

You didn't like that clutch anyway.

Yeah, but it would then sue you for aggravated assault, and cost you even MORE money!

Yeah lol. Can't afford much more. I'm bringing it to a transmission shop tomorrow and letting the guy drive it. i hope it's something like shift linkage, where they wont have to pull the tranny out. rwd clutches are so much easier to work on.

Brought it to the shop this morning. They said it sounds like it has low transmission fluid and they want to fill it before driving it. Fingers crossed.

The tranny fluid was completely empty. He fiilled it up and it runs fine now according to what the mechanic said. I pick it up from the shop for free. He still has not identified where the leak is or how big the leak is. I'm really happy it's not a clutch issue though.

my guess is that the tranny fluid was last checked in 1993.

good call rubydist. Actually 1992. thats when it was manufactured. i don't claim to be a good mechanic but i need some jacks or something i can prop up the car with. i check the other fluids. plus i only bought it a couple months ago. guess you cant assume anything from the previous owner. obviously zero maintenance was done on this car.
