I was driving in the rain for about 2 hours the other day. When I got home and went to shut the wipers off the wipers would go down to the lowest postion that they go when the wipers are on but they would not go down to the full rest position. This has happened to me before but I would just wait until the next day and turn the wipers on and off a few times and play around with the switch and they would go all the way down. Is this problem related to the motor or is it a problem with the swtich? And if it were the switch why would it shut off the wipers but not return them to the rest position? If the switch was the problem wouldn't the wipers always be on theh lowest delay setting?

I used to have an '86 Lincoln LSC with a similar problem. There were 2 components to the delay wiper system: the motor itself and a "brain box" (can't remember its official name). Seemed logical to replace the brain, since the wipers would do their own random on/off/delay/wouldn't park thing whenever they felt like it. In short, it didn't fix a thing. Put in a new motor and everything was O-TAY. I don't know if the SHO has this brain or not though...

It's the motor. It's forgotten where to "park" the wipers when turned off. Most of the time they'll rest in the lowest "on" position or straight up on the windshield.
