Why isn't there an MTX SHO?

the most likely reason is because ford didn't feel like designing an entirely new transmission for one car.

Will there ever be another MTX SHO?

No.

Because, as SuperHo mentioned, you would need to design a new from scratch trans, plus package it in there, which not only costs millions of dollors in development, but countless hours of development time and since the 2010 Taurus program was on a fastrack development schedule per Alan Mullaly's direct orders, there was absolutely no time for it.

Tuning has also made it to the point where they can program an automatic to get better fuel economy than manuals too, especially with DSG style boxes.

Also since about less than 5% of customers would purchase the manual, it would never be able to recoup the cost in addition sales, so it just doesn't make financial sense.

Yes, it would be awesome, and yes I would prefer it too, but we are the minority and Ford is out to make money first and foremost, so it will likely never happen.

Lastly, as Racer X eluded to, this topic has been discussed to death already, so if you searched, you would have probably found the same answer (and prob from me too LOL) on another thread.

This sucks. I understand the business strategy/financial reasons for not offering an MTX in the new SHO, but that doesn't make it any less of a disappointment to us 5% who would take the manual trans over the auto. Oh well. What can ya do?

Yeah. I know it will only be a matter of time, but it would be nice to have the option from the factory instead of having to hack apart a brand new car...

Sorry, I should have done a search. I just wasn't thinking right when I was up all night because I couldn't sleep and I was excited about hearing an answer. My apologies to all. Mea culpa.

The only American made hi performance sedan that is available with a manual is the Cadillac CTS-V. Probably the only reason one is available is because a 6 speed manual is already available and require little development cost to use the transmission. Although the manual version has more power to the rear wheels, the automatic version is quicker in the 1/4 mile stock because it can put the power down better. Chrysler doesn't seem to see enough of a market to offer a manual in either the 300 or Charger.

Which has become true all over the place. F1 switched to automatics ages ago. It seems strange to me that the street seems to have missed what the real racing people figured out a long time ago. Automatic transmissions have come a long way and simply are better than manuals in a number of areas now, so on top of the economics of creating a transmission just for one model, which are not going to fly in this case, its very possible that the automatic that comes with the car is going to produce better performance than any manual mated with it would anyway.

Time for people to come into the 21st century about transmissions. Well designed automatics are the way to go.

IMO, the problem is that you're basing that opinion purely on objective, quantifiable aspects of a car's performance. Sure, if you're looking at lap times, many of today's autos are better than their manual counterparts. The problem is that you can't quantify the fun of shifting your own gears. If you want to get the quickest lap times possible, and nothing else matters, then I agree that a well-designed auto would be the most logical choice. If you're going for pure driving pleasure (and you enjoy rowing your own gears, like me), then any auto is going to be a disappointment.

It all boils down to personal preference and what your goals are.

i'd personally rather have a properly programmed manumatic over a stick any day of the week...and by properly programmed, i mean a sport mode that locks the TC in every gear but 1st and 2nd and even in auto mode doesn't shift until redline with the requisite throttle blip on downshifts. today's modern manually selectable auto shifts light years faster than any human could anyway.

Exactly correct.
