I've done some searching on this but haven't found anything conclusive. Some people are using a gen3 IAB but I read somewhere that the electrical connector is different. Is this true?

Does anyone have a p/n# and approx price for a new IAC/IAB whether it be a gen1/2/3 part?

What makes one IAB better than another? I understand that the 89-93 IAB and Gen 3 can be cleaned whereas the 94-95 cannot?

This is for a 93 mtx by the way.

Thanks-I have some spare intakes with IAB's that I'm going to sort through now..

They are all made by Wells, whether they come in a Ford box, Standard Box, Neihoff, etc. etc. The base electronics and solenoid in them are all the same, it's just the housings and connector orientation that differ. The core Fomoco IAC is the same today as it was 20 years ago, just different housing packages to fit various motor configurations. There is no performance gain in IAC selection.

Cleaning an IAC is usually not a good idea regardless of what gen since the composition of the chemicals it takes to clean the carbon buildup almost always leech into the plastic plunger mechanism and chemically melt the plastic causing more harm than good. The "wisdom" about cleaning MTX IAC's comes from the fact that the plunger assembly can be separated from the electronics.

A replacement MTX IAC can be had for about $30 at most parts stores, and should last another 100K plus miles.
