Starting my clutch install today.I want to know where you guys put your jackstands and jack when pulling the tranny?I have 3 floor jacks 2 good jack stands, 2 not so good stands, and 2 car ramps.I was thinking rolling the rear up on the ramps and jacking the front up level.Doing this though will make the front pretty high with just stands to hold it.Now I'm 6'1" and about 330#s and when I'm under there it won't be pretty.I did have the car set up like this before when checking the fluid and it seemed ok.Is there a better way?
Thanks for any help

I asked the same question last summer. :) Behind the rear subframe bolts you will find the beginning of the frame rails. This is where you want to place the jack stands. As recommended, I used 2x4 blocks about 8 inches long between the rails and the stands. Make sure everything is centered and secure before proceeding.

I also used ramps under the rear tires to provide extra room. Jacked up the rear to place them though after positioning the car in the garage. Driving up on them wasn't an option for medue to space considerations. The front end was a little higher than the rear. You need that height to get the tranny in and out(about 20 inches).

Make sure you leave enough room in front of the car for your jack (front center subframe. My jack was short an inch or so and I had to temporarily place the stands directly to the frame rails before moving the jack to each frame rail or rear subframe to get the extra height to place the blocks.

Just use common sense and be safe. Good luck to you. :thumb:

We left the rear tires on the ground when doing the clutch change on my 89. It provided plenty of room using jackstands under the front jack points. Although any extra lift you can provide would certainly be helpful, I'm just not certain that lifting the rear tires is a must.

Good luck!

Yeah, make sure everything is safe and secure! I have problems jacking my car up once in awhile because of all of the rust underneath. Just give it a good wiggle to make sure it won't come off the stands!

I would say the norm isn't to have the rear up in the air also. That's a lot of height! You may find your arns really tired for all that reaching up you're going to have to do. :)

Yup,you're right! The back is too high. But ohh well. It's going really slow.Maybe today will be better. This is kinda off topic but I'll ask anyway.

I got the drivers side half shaft out easy but am having a time with the right side.It looks like when I remove the trans. the right side half shaft will just slide out.Is this right?
I'll just post again and see what I get.
Thaks for the help guys!
