I know for sure the gen 2's are under the hood, but where are the gen 1's, if they have them? I'd like to make sure before I continue my fuel pump replacement.

Gary, That the relay or the Shut off switch?

Like Black hawk said, The GEN II's are under the hood over the radiator. Small black box with a large M on it. Normally covered by the piece of black plastic

I might be confused. But when people talk about the relay are they also talking about the inertia relay as well? That would be what you are refering to, correct?

the fuel pump cut off switch(inertia) is in the trunk. the relay for the fuel pump is in the Intergrated Relay Module mounted on the radiator core support. it is more towards the drivers side has a 8 or 10 mm bolt holding the harness into it. It is black and is square about 6" by 6"

Thanks to all. With the key to on, the output of the relay should be +12vdc, correct? And is this the last component before the fuel pump itself? I have no pressurization from my pump when I turn the key to on. And there is also no pressurization left off of the fuel rail. Which leads me to believe that the pump is bad if in fact I do get a signal out from the relay.

Of course you have to know what wire/s come out of the box and lead to the pump---that box controls many things.

Doesn't the relay go to the sending unit then to the pump? The sending unit has the electrical plug that goes to the pump. Does the inertia switch cut the power to the sender/pump when activated or the relay?

you can almost bet on it being the pump though. I think I know of a handfull of IRCM's that have gone bad compared to a truck load of actual fuel pumps being bad.

Power comes from the eec pump relay (box) to the inertia switch then to the sensor (top of tank)and then to pump. This is in the ON position and pressurizes the pump. If the ignition switch is not turned to the START wink position (after one second), a timing device in the eec (box) opens the ground circuitry to the relay which de-energizes the pump.

Pull up your back seat, The harness going to the fuel pump is under the seat on the pass. side. untape it. Find the Pink/Black and Black wires in the harness. Jump 12v to these wires, the pink/black is the positive. If the fuel pump runs then it is not the pump of corse, then you will have to look further. Hope this helps.

Whoa! Just the thread I was looking for! My car has 4 wires coming from the tank. Black, pink/black, yellow/white and black/white. I kinda knew which the 12v wires were since they were larger than the other 2. And I figured out that the yellow/white was for the fuel gauge. But what does the black/white wire do?? It's a small wire so I assume it's for a sensor or relay of some kind.

Also, do both 12v wires end up at the ICM, if not where do they go?

1-12v pump, 2-12v sender for gauge, 3&4 are grounds for them. I'm pretty sure the pump ground is fed via the eec (near radiator) because if you don't turn your ignition to the start position it'll cut this ground off and prevent the pump from running.

OK all fixed. Fuel pump was it. There was power out of the relay so it only makes sense since the fuel pump had not been replaced in its 165k life. Thanks to all
