Does anyone know where the factory amp is located? Also is it possible to bridge the front speakers to the factory amp (my rears and sub are hooked up to an additional amp). Any kind of help would be great. :salute:

They are attached to the back seats in the gen 1 and 2... you may want to look there.

I have a gen 3, and it isn't there. That is where I am going to install my additional amp though.

On the driver's side of the trunk. Remove the carpeting from the left trunk wall by taking out all of those little black circular holders. To remove those, you need to use a needle-nose pliers or equivalent to pull out the center square bolt-like thing. Then the black circle will come right off.

Pull the carpet away from the left wall of the trunk and if you look past the CD changer, the amp will be sitting back there directly above the wheel well.

That is a good question. Does anyone know what the factory one is rated? I also have a 400w amp. I was planning on using the factory amp for the fronts and the additional 400w amp for my rears and 6x9 sub. I would think this is the way to go. Any thoughts on this?

I don't know for sure, but I plan on using a 4-channel amp (60-75 watts per speaker) to power the fronts and backs. Not quite sure what I'll do with the stock amp.

Do the separate tweeters in a component set get powered through the bass speaker or do you need to hook them up to an amp individually?

What kind of speakers are you planning on running?

I have Kenwoods up front and factory in the rear for now. The only reason I ask is because my bro gave me a 400w amp that'll never use unless I can hook it to the factory system.

Ok after looking at the amp it's a 4 channel, so can I just do a plug and play with it? Or is more complicated than that?

I don't see why you couldn't just replace the amp, and plug and play.If all the connections are the same, shouldn't change anything else in the system.

The inputs to the new amp would be the problem. The OEM amp uses what is called Corporate Communications Protocol for the input signals, one for left and one for right. This may work if directly connected to the amp inputs or it may not. You can always use line level adapters.

Personally I have a mono sub amp connected to a 12" sub that is driven off the rear speaker wires and the OEM amp handles the other speakers just fine.
