Hello,
new guy here, I come to you from the 60's/70's musclecar community.
I am building a '71 Mercury Cougar for my 15 year old and I wanted a mild yet smooth and trouble free strong engine for him...Enter a 1993 SHO I recently acquired.

I want an automatic tranny for it. What are my choices? I have an fresh automatic tranny that will fit a 351 can I make it work on the SHO?

No, the SHO motor has the bellhousing mount for a 3.0 engine, so you need a trans that will fit a Ranger or Aerostar w/ specifically the 3.0 engine. So, you are pretty much limited to a A4LD or a 5R55e, afaik.

You might want to post in the SHO Related section. Should get more eyeballs from folks that have done cross-platform transplants. Alot are using manual transmissions like t-5 with the aerostar bell housings. You could get a tranny adapter fabbed, but I'm not sure about getting different auto trans to work.

Did you get a 93 with manual or auto tranny?

What's the weight of that Mercury?

With all that room wouldn't a 302 or something give you the torque you need to push something that big?

I dont think anyone did the RWD conversion with an automatic. So you will swim in complete unknown territory as far as for the torque/flexplate. And no your 351 tranny is not a bolt on.
