Supra 712's are great for the money and grip quite well on our cars. I have the Falken ziex 512's awaiting install for my 18's, heard they ranked #1 in a big test. I don't trust the name hankook. Potenza's are a great tire. Can never go wrong with a set of nittos on your car.

OH you didn't know
Stay away from the Kumho 712. Too hard rubber. I would go with the Nitto 555 or the NeoGen if avail. in your size. Yokohama ES100 are great tires also. I am currently installing Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my 18's, heard the ride quality is gonna be great, we'll see. Dunlop makes a pretty good tire as well, and Bridgestone I found are quite pricey, I've never been a Bridgstone fan. Hankook is a decent tire for the money. What size tires are you going to need?

I have the Potenza G009s on my car right now. They are not sticky as the RE750s I had on before but they are better in the rain and not bad in snow since they are all season. The big plus is that they are holding up very well. I think I will get at least 40k or more out of them. If you car is a daily driver they are a good compromise between tire life and performance.

They're okay. I made two summers' worth of driving on a set. I tend to drive my SHO a little ******* occation. The tires made one trip to the road course and 30 or so runs at the strip.

I'll be getting a set of Kuhmo Extca(?) MX in 225/50-16 for this summer. Don't have the money right now.

I like Dunlop SP8000's. I have gone through three sets and have been satisfied. By shopping around I have purchased them for $80 to $95 per tire 225/50ZR-16 mounted on slicers. Currently I have Yokohama ES100 in 235/45-WR17 and I am happy with them.

The Hankooks get lousy ratings on epinions. I am buying the Falken 512s as soon as my wheels come in. I had a set of Falkens on an old Mustang GT
and they were great tires for the money.

I have a set of Kuhmo Ecsta 712 - 225/55ZR16 for summer driving (very impressive for cornering and grip), however last year I bought all seasons (215/60R16) for winter driving and have been so impressed that I have left them on to try this summer....the Kuhmos will stay in the garage. Tires are BFGoodrich Traction T/A's - and they retail at less than $100 a tire at Costco - although they will never see track time (V-Rated) - leave that to the Kuhmos.

Tire of Choice

I really like my new set of Falken Ziex 512. I can feel the difference in performance as compared to my old Goodyear tires. Although I only have at least 2000 miles on them, I think that they are really the best tire you can get for a descent price. I run 18's, so I hope that you can find the same tire that will fit your application. Good luck on your choice.

What ones would you buy and why? what ones would you not buy and why?

Supra's are decent tires at most. They are a harder compound, so you will sacrifice traction in wet and dry along with wet handling.

Falken's are good, but i believe these were the series with a rather flimsy sidewall. Otherwise, not much experience with that name.

SP Sport 8000's are a Dunlop tire. All Dunlop tires suffer from the 2 worst issues a tire could have: Excessive wear and feathering of the tread. Although the feathering will not harm your vehicles handling or traction, the ride noise will increase and the tire wear will not get any better with their age.

Hankook's are OK, but I feel they suffer in handling too much for my own comfort. A decent amount of tire noise through cornering and a fair amount of traction loss in wet conditions.

Bridgestones are excellent tires in their first half of wear, but the underlaying compound leaves a good deal to be expected.

I'd say the Nitto would be a good tire for your situation. Although they do have their flaws, they are the best traction to wear combo of the group, IMO. You can beat on them and not worry too much about melting half the damn things across the intersection.. Hey, i have a lead foot! :nut: If you REALLY wanna play with great traction, I'd very HIGHLY recommend saving up the nickles and dimes (more like a few hundred) for a set of F1 GS-D3s... I absolutely LOVE those tires. They do wear a bit quicker, but the traction and handling is great all the way down to the threads! :naughty:

Hope this helps ya!

I've been very happy with SP8000s, 2 sets, and Yoko ES100s, also 2 sets. I switched to the Yokos since the SP8000s are not using the modern tire technology of silica rubber for longer tread life. The SP8000s were supposed to be discontinued a few years ago, but Dunlop continues to make them for some reason, they still can't be too bad.

The SP8000's are the best performance to dollar tire from Dunlop, which is a huge factor on their existance. Their new rubber helps a bit, but wasn't enough to suffice the SP A2 or their SP5000s. The 9000s are doing very poorly, as well. If it wasn't for their awesome truck tires (Radial Rovers and Gran(d)Treks), Dunlop would feel the burn from their performance series!

Anybody have any experience with these?? http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...arch=true&partnum=255ZR6GFSP&fromCompare1=yes

BFG G-Force sport - they seem to have good reviews and are modestly priced at $82 a tire

Now I was thinking of putting these on my 91+ as it only gets driven in the summer.

I had a set of yokohoma AVS on the 92 before the current set I have on now and they wore out really fast. They were fine for summer but horrible on snow/ice.
