What tires should i get???????????

Im gettin new summer tires and am interested in what you guys have had experience with or think or good tires. I have stock rims. And Ive been to tirerack, but i still would like a little more input from other V8SHO owners. So what tires do you guys use and how do you like them???Any info appreciated.

In my not so humble opinion

Firestone SZ50 EP's are the best tire on the market. I love them on my SHO, the car is glued to the road. I went through 2 sets of these on my 96 Trans Am as well, great tires.
If money is an issue I would get the Bridgestone RE730's, they are almost as good at about $40 a tire cheaper. Ask anybody who has owned a set of SZ50's and they will tell you its the best tire they ever had.

I am using Bridgestone Potenza 910s and am very happy with them. Fairly low cost, excellent wet and dry handling. Not great in slush and snow, however.

Tire Rack often does have very good prices.

You will not regret chosing the Bridgestone RE730. They are a great dry traction tire and also a great rain tire. They are ZR rated and UTGR rated at 300 AA A. I am using them as my ninth set of tires on my 7.5" wide 16" rims on my 241,000 1991 SHO. Others I have used are Bridgestone S02 and RE71, Dunlop D40M2 and SP8000, Yokohama AVS Intermediate. The RE730s have been great tires.

I ordered a set of BFG Comp T/A VR4 from tire rack. They were having a half price sale on the particular size I needed. Even though I had to pay brokerage fees and shipping cost about $20 USD per tire (I'm in Canada also) I still saved lots of $$$. Tire rack was very helpful and easy to deal with. The Comp T/A's are sweeet too for the price!!

Among the previous 8 sets of tires I have had on my 241,000 mile 1991 SHO were a "set" of 225/55VR16 BFG VR4s. I didn't mention these tires before because I didn't want to have them in the same post as those good tires.

I had purchased them to try to get longer life from their 300 treadwear rating. I had only been getting 25-30,000 miles from each set. Three of the four original VR4s were replaced under BFG warranty due to excessive runout (out of roundness). The amount of dry and wet traction that was sacrificed was unacceptable for the price ($125). Even after the three tires were replaced at various intervals throughout the life of the set, I was only able to get 25,000 miles out of them. That was back in 1995. In the tire business, that is almost back to the dark ages. There have been many advancements in tread design, rubber chemistry and compounding in the meantime. The VR4s are old generation tires that are still premium priced.

Compared to the service and performance I have received from the OEM Goodyear GT+4, Dunlop D40M2 (2 sets) and SP8000, the Bridgestone S02, RE71 and RE730, and Yokahama AVS Intermediate, the BFG products were not in the same league of quality. Never again will BFGs protect my rims.

Hmmm, sorry to hear about your misforture with BFG!! I've only had mine for a few hundred miles so I cant really pass judgement. I bought them for the sale price and the ratings by other buyers seemed good. Live and learn I guess

I just got a set of Bridgestone RE040s 225/45/17. Very sticky, they should be UTQ rating of 140. $200 each at TireRack, $155 set at Ebay.

I had a set of Dunlops on my 92 ****** before it was totalled, and I loved 'em. They took pretty much everything I threw at them (and I gave that car **** too, on the serpentine roads between my house and my school), and I wish I could remember what kind they were. If I saw the tread pattern again I would know.

On my SHO I have Michelin X-Ones, which have something like a 600 treadwear rating. Great for straight, dry road, but scream like **** and don't grab that great in tight corners; not too hot on wet roads either.
