Well, we removed the old fuel filter but it was pretty clean. Put in a new one anyway. Forced some carb cleaner through line between the filter and the quick-disconnect at the rail, then blew compressed air. We used a clear plastic jug to catch what came out and to our surprise, not much did. So it looks like the fuel evaporated away to the varnish sludge in the tank only. We threw a bottle of GumOut in the new tank with 8 gallons of gas and then turned it over to start...Nothing.
Check fuel pressure; good, 39 psi while cranking for first second. Good sign.
Find an old spark plug and connect the number 4 wire to it and ground to engine. No spark. Grab a flashlight and check cam position sensor wiring. It's good but there is an oily deposit all over the back side of the motor...with little grey hairs stuck all over everything. AHA!
Immediately check the DIS wiring and Voila', the red/lt blue wire is chewed apart right at the connector. Not a problem, get out the soldering iron and some heat shrink, and 12 minutes later the engine is purring like a kitten. After sitting for 4 years.
Uh Oh, coolant pouring out the driver's side of the bottom core support area. Up goes the lift again and we find the radiator wasn't crimped all the way at both tanks. Grrrr. Lower the car, drain the coolant, remove overflow, remove crash sensor, CCRM, hoses, fan and shroud, unbolt radiator. Take it over to the bench, grab a set of nail nipper dikes and go to town putting more crimp in the tangs. Made up a couple of plugs out of radiator hose and freeze plugs, pressure tested the radiator to 16 psi and soaped it. No leaks. Hot damn. Re-assemble in reverse order ( I hate when instructions say that).
Battery wouldn't take a charge so we tried the one out of the old ReXall7; that lasted a little longer.
About this time I get a call from Donovan (SHOmethewayhome) wanting to out and watch the comedy that is Dooleyville, in action. I said sure but the admission fee is a battery. They SHOw up with an Optima (admission plus two free drinks) and we slap it in there. Fire her up. She purs like a kitten again. Get the aftermarket radiator temp sensor/fan controller tested and dialed in and she's good to go.
Now Brian just needs to get one of the BF Goodrich's fixed and he can drive her home.
Another job sort of well done by the Half Fast mechanic at Dooleyville.
Good night.
