Well it looks like my old green 93 MTX will be heading back to Dooleyville once again. Older readers may remeber that it was the MTX twin to the ATX that got relayed to Bizzy many moons ago.

The MTX went to a young kid that eventually abandoned it at his Grandma's place and now it needs to go. I'll be hauling it here in the next day or two so we can get it running to sell or part out. The only great thing about it other than a very rust free only AZ car is that it has an all stainless steel exhaust system made by Borla, I think. If we part it, the owner will keep the engine for the Lotus Seven replica he is building.

Another SHO-powered Lotus 7/Locost? Should we start a pool on who'll get one running first? ;)

BTW, any locals that want ex-Pumpkin parts/spares/whatever get local haul-it-away discounts. Couple sets of wheels, including one with street tires mounted ready to go.

We need to have a yard sale or something.

Well we traced the fault to a non working fuel pump and from the smell of the old gas in the tank, it was a sure bet. Dropped the tank, opened her up and black crap all over the inside of the tank, pick-up, filter screen etc etc, and it smelled like low-grade varnish. Just happened to have another tank and pump. Put it all back together and now we have fuel pump noises at least. Put in 3 gals of fresh and cycle'd it a bunch of times.

He's going to get more gas and fuel system cleaner while the battery is charging overnight. I'll check fuel pressure tomorrow, hopefully the regulator isn't all gummed up also. Probably throw another fuel filter on it also.

Donovan, We should be hitting it again tomorrow at about 10 AM if you want to come on out.

;)

Also have a set of 16" Konigs with old BFGs on them with reasonable tread (they were my rain tires).

Better hurry if you want the Snypers or Borbets, though, I've got people asking about both with shipping estimates in hand already.

Definitely do another filter. I'd also suggest some low pressure compressed air through the supply line with it disconnected at both ends. I don't know what causes that black goo, but that's three for three cars that've sat that had that happen, our LeMons bunny, the Zombie, and now this one. The Zombie is hopelessly clogged with that crap and I'm not looking forward to cleaning it all out.

On the bunny a tank drop and a pressure washer (and a $45 re-seal kit) seems to have fixed it. Haven't had a chance to drop the tank on the Zombie yet.

You sure you don't need more weed killer? ;)

If anybody wants it I've got about seven gallons of free gasoline that has a bit of a dark hue. Free for the taking, bring your own container. Good for weed killer, heaters, amusing parlor tricks, old small motors, whatever. Come and get it.

Well, we removed the old fuel filter but it was pretty clean. Put in a new one anyway. Forced some carb cleaner through line between the filter and the quick-disconnect at the rail, then blew compressed air. We used a clear plastic jug to catch what came out and to our surprise, not much did. So it looks like the fuel evaporated away to the varnish sludge in the tank only. We threw a bottle of GumOut in the new tank with 8 gallons of gas and then turned it over to start...Nothing.

Check fuel pressure; good, 39 psi while cranking for first second. Good sign.

Find an old spark plug and connect the number 4 wire to it and ground to engine. No spark. Grab a flashlight and check cam position sensor wiring. It's good but there is an oily deposit all over the back side of the motor...with little grey hairs stuck all over everything. AHA!

Immediately check the DIS wiring and Voila', the red/lt blue wire is chewed apart right at the connector. Not a problem, get out the soldering iron and some heat shrink, and 12 minutes later the engine is purring like a kitten. After sitting for 4 years.

Uh Oh, coolant pouring out the driver's side of the bottom core support area. Up goes the lift again and we find the radiator wasn't crimped all the way at both tanks. Grrrr. Lower the car, drain the coolant, remove overflow, remove crash sensor, CCRM, hoses, fan and shroud, unbolt radiator. Take it over to the bench, grab a set of nail nipper dikes and go to town putting more crimp in the tangs. Made up a couple of plugs out of radiator hose and freeze plugs, pressure tested the radiator to 16 psi and soaped it. No leaks. Hot damn. Re-assemble in reverse order ( I hate when instructions say that).

Battery wouldn't take a charge so we tried the one out of the old ReXall7; that lasted a little longer.

About this time I get a call from Donovan (SHOmethewayhome) wanting to out and watch the comedy that is Dooleyville, in action. I said sure but the admission fee is a battery. They SHOw up with an Optima (admission plus two free drinks) and we slap it in there. Fire her up. She purs like a kitten again. Get the aftermarket radiator temp sensor/fan controller tested and dialed in and she's good to go.

Now Brian just needs to get one of the BF Goodrich's fixed and he can drive her home.

Another job sort of well done by the Half Fast mechanic at Dooleyville.

Good night.

Tom
