I would strongly recomment against any of the Redline Shockproof fluids in the MTX-IV unless you are absolutely sure the synchro blocker rings are unlined (all Brass), and even then, using these fluids is a crapshoot for a street driven car, as shifting is going to be difficult until the fluid is up to temperature.

Yes, I think you were the only one trying them at all, but we asked anyway. :)

Yes, we are in the final negotiations over price (they say there is a price increase etc.). We have been trying to include/link an ATX diff into this run, to help pricing for both, but unfortunately that has been delaying the process.

I know I said it before but if a ATX diff can be produced put me top of that list. If you need me to send one out for devlopment I have 3 in my garage. My garage looks like a damn transmission shop sometimes.

Actually, we've already sent one in - we are just waiting for a price! Then we can start gathering interest :)

I don't have to tell you how excited I would be to have something other than "One-Wheel Sally" in my tranny case. ;)

We have finally finished our negotiations with Autotech for the next batch of MTX differentials. Final retail is 1495. Part of the delay revolved around the fact that our salesman was dismissed, and his replacement has not been as quick as hoped. Apparently our dismissed salesman had quoted a price that was too low for a small run like ours, and was instead more suited to a run of 100 or so. Well, at least he wasn’t quoting us VW and Honda-like pricing suited to runs of 1000 or so! With these types of parts, the cost is inversely related to the production run size.

We also tried combining the ATX and MTX order to keep the original low pricing, but there’s nothing shared between the ATX and MTX diff that isn’t already shared with any other ‘small’ Wavetrac diff, so that does not help us – they are two separate production runs. However, we do now have a price in place for the ATX units (more on that in another thread).

What we’ve done to try and help with the pricing is to increase our order quantity above the original 30 units, to allow us to offer a healthy discount for those able to help out with the deposit we have to pay to start, where the discount is in proportion to the size and timing of the deposit, like what we did with the last Quaife run.

Here’s how it breaks down. All prices include delivery to the US 48 states and Canada (taxes are extra for Canadians, depending on the province of delivery, but there is no duty, unlike the Quaife):

For those that can pay:
100% by the end of November, we will match the US$1295 previously quoted
50% by the end of December, we will offer US$1345
10% by the end of January (or until they are ready for delivery), we will offer US$1395

The target time from start to delivery is 3-4 months. We expect to have a prototype in hand to test within 2 months.

Deposits will hold the diff for up to 6 months after they are ready for delivery. Thus a deposit can be used to ‘hold’ a diff for you until you are ready to pay the balance. Deposits are non-refundable, but they are transferable. This means if you sell your car or something else happens that you no longer need the diff, you can transfer your deposit to another party (they pay you for your deposit) and then they pay the balance and take delivery. If you need a diff more than a year later, please e-mail us.

Once there are ~10 units left from the run, we will update the group buy thread with the units remaining, so if you want a unit and HAVEN’T yet placed a deposit, you can do so before the batch is sold out.

If deposits come in SO fast that the batch sells out within a month, we can look at increasing the batch size to 100 (with a reduced price for everyone), but we are not holding our breath for that to happen.

The next step for us is to post a thread in the 'Group Buy' Section and also update our website to take payments. For the deposits, we will also be taking cheques (including credit card cheques). For the 100% deposit only, the ONLY method of payment will be a cheque (including a PayPal e-cheque) - instant transfers and credit card payments will be refunded, as the PayPal fees for those payment types are just too high for that low price. In the mean time, if you want to go ahead and re-confirm your interest, please do so by e-mail (no need to post here), which will be one less e-mail that we need to send out. No need to send funds until we update our website.

Thanks to everyone for your patience and support - we are excited to get these units on the road!

So what bias ratio would the standard (carbon fiber) plate system provide? zak

We finally got an answer on this. The bias ratio is 2.6-2.8. We also found out that the plates don't actually change the ratio (that's a function of geometry), but instead, they alter the 'aggressiveness' or 'feel' of the diff. Autotech has acknowledged that they need to adjust the wording on their website which implies the bias ratio is variable.

Are you planning on waiting for the completion of the MTX buy to do the ATX buy? The reason I ask is I would like to have a transmission ready to go into my car for spring.

edit: of course assuming the ATX one gets off the ground.

We hope not - it all depends on how many interested (paying) parties we can gather and how quickly. If we can gather enough to start before the other is over, we will.

We firmly believe that it will get off the ground. The ATX diff will cover:
AXOD, AXODE, AX4S, AX4N and 4F50N

I think that means we will offer a Wavetrac for EVERY Taurus ever built ... (gotta look into Windstars and Continentals ..) In other words, we will be posting a 'Gauging Interest' for the ATX diff in more than just SHOforum. :)

Don't forget that as with the MTX unit, a prototype will be produced within 2 months of the start, and that will need to be tested. We don't own an ATX, so we'll need a volunteer, of course. Care to make any suggestions? :)

One of each, I presume? :)

You bet!!!

Actually the 99 is my DD and I can't really be without a vehicle, and the 93 is not licensed.

Someone else is a better fit for these. Maybe some day.

So how "solid" are these Diffs? are they anywhere near as tough as the quaifes?

Yes, if not more so. People in Hondas and so on (roughly the same size of diff, i.e. all the same 'small' size diff category as ours) are putting WAAAY more power through these already than we ever will. (700+WHP ..)
