Waterpump shot any suggestions?

Just got my SHO and this thing is giving me a fit. Last week A/C and Turn signals go out and now the waterpump. I am not going to let it get me down but is there a way to fix this problem cheap? I can find someone to help me do the labor where can you buy one cheap?

I Know that NAPA sells rebuilt ones for somewhere around 60 bucks. I believe they're 200 bucks brand new so i'd recommend an A-cardone reman. waterpump. A&A sells them too.
As for the install, i suggest also changing the cranshaft position sensor (CPS) while you're in there. Has your car shut down for no reason at all? If so it's because the leaky waterpump dropped coolant onto the CPS making it too hot therefore shutting your car down. there is also a chance you could get coolant on the CPS when removing the waterpump anyway so i'd suggest changing that. While you're in there, you can also get a good part of your 60K done. When mine went I did the timing belt, accessory belts etc etc. You should also do the front main seal and lower radiator hose while you're there. this will save you a ton of time and money in the future.
the job itself i considered challenging. I'm not a mechanic and it took me about 6-7 hours to do. It requires ripping off the crank damper and harmonic balancer (for one damn bolt i believe..it's been a while) so you might want to have an impact wrench handy. good luck with it. I'm sure other people will post the things that i missed.

Stixx please make a signature for your posts that list your car's year and tranny/engine litre.Here's an example of why.
RockAuto.com sells the A1 Cardone unit. For 3.0l it is $40 with a core charge. For 3.2l it's close to $70. You will also need new gaskets that run another $5-6.
There will be other questions that will require this info to get good answers as well.

I just had an estimate done by a mechanic suggested by a friend to replace the water pump, which has failed massively (leaking all over the place, lots of smoke when hitting cat and burning). They want SEVEN HUNDRED BUCKS, I was like give that son of a bitch back to me, I'll figure out how to do it myself. He didn't even mention replacing the CPS which makes me think he doesn't know dick about these cars. He said the water pump is 300 bucks!!! Give me a break. Anything else I should do while I'm in there? Timing belt etc? It's got 106k miles getting close to the 60k anyway.

kirby, yes do the rest of the lower 60k as it is due at this time. The waterpump and new gaskets, timing belt, crank sensor, and front main seal or crankshaft seal is all in the lower half. As for the waterpump from the quote the dealer price for a new Motorcraft h2o pump is close to that. The reman. aftermarket units are not whole units and need new seals. I updated my profile so everyone will know what my car is. I appreciate the replies but I have a couple of questions. My car has 89,000 miles and the 60k was done 20k miles ago. Do you guys feel all the work listed above is necessary? I was going to do the crank sensor and replace the belst and leave it at that. Please give me your thoughts.

Atta boy with the sig. stixx. You don't have to do any of those things other than the failing part replacement if you choose. Those are only recommendations to not duplicate labor. Are you sure the 60k service was done at 60k? Most people aren't even aware of what it is. Get the A1 Cardone unit and the waterpump gaskets from RockAuto.com. The best price around. Mine just got here today so delivery was about 4days. Go local if you want the part by the weekend.

Is there a way to determine whether he 60k has been done? When I go to fix the water pump is a list of things I could check to determine whether or not the 60K was done. "I am not a mechanic and will have to rely on some friends". The former owner says it was done and by the way the car has been taken care of I am inclined to believe him. But you never know.

In the timing area there probably is no sure way to determine if everything was done or not. Obviously if the timing belt looks like crap that would be a sign. If you can afford to replace all the parts(h2o pump,timing belt, crank sensor, and front main/crankshaft seal) then do that. It's another $75-80 in parts after the water pump. The work is the same to take everything apart which is time consuming.

Replacing parts surrounding the hard to reach failing part could be considered "preventative maintenance". Trying to prevent doing all that labor again! I guess you just need to decide what you're willing to shell out at any particular time. Good luck and be careful with the timing covers as they are plastic and not as durable as one would like.
