What is the correct OEM part# or Motorcraft part# for a water pump for a 1989 SHO?

I ordered the Motorcraft part from Green Sales, they listed a part# on the invoice as: F4PZ8501A

The number stamped on the pump casting is: RF-E6AE-8505-AC

I checked with RockAuto catalog and spoke to them. RockAuto lists the following Motocraft part# for a 1989 SHO:

*****************************************************
MOTORCRAFT Part # PW321 {#F4PZ8501A}
E6DZ-8501A O.E.M. NUMBER; E6AE-8505AC,AD O.E. CASTING NUMBER
*****************************************************

The salesman said I had to check what OEM part# is listed for a water pump for my vehicle or check the number stamped on the casting for the pump installed in my car. If they match the part numbers listed above then this pump will fit.

I haven't checked the casting number since I am only buying the pump in case the one on the car fails (390,000 miles) and I don't know the OEM part#.

I guess I could crawl underneath the car and check the number on the casting.

But, the part does not look like the water pumps I've seen for Gen 1 SHO's when I've taken engines apart in junk yards. The impeller looks totally different.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks.

I don't want to know what you paid for that thing. Most people just use an A1-Cardone remanufactured pump.

I just dug up a remanned pump that I have here, and I can't find a casting number on it at all.

The part number listed on SHONUT's site is F0DZ-8501-A.

Does the pump look like the pumps pictured on RockAuto's site? The pictures for the Gates and Motorcraft pumps on RockAuto are wrong, but the others are correct. I think the Gates and Motorcraft pumps are not the right parts. New Motorcraft SHO water pumps tend to be very expensive.

I think you're right. It just doesn't look like the correct part. I'll return it and buy the A1-Cardone.

BTW, NICE LOOKING SHO!!

You state that it WAS a nice car, what happened?

Bummer. I hope you are OK. Well ... it's only a car, worse things can happen. Hope you are rebuilding your inventory.
