VSS swap no work - tranny issue now

I have searched for this so I know there are pages upon pages on it - but I have not seen anything for the removal of the VSS? I might have missed it but - I took the 1 bolt out and it don't want to come out ... I will head back out to try and try to remove it.

Any help would be appreciated - if there is another topic that has this information in it, feel free to post it.

Make sure that the single 8mm nut is all the way removed, and remove the speedo cable. Then just tug on it and it should come out. You will have more room to tug if you get that speedo cable out of the way. It is actually pressing into the VSS housing fighting against you..

Hey Jeremy - it must be a weekend because the responses are damn fast. Actually I went out there not knowing what held it in there besides the nut i spun it a little and a little tug and it came out. From the top of the engine non the less!!

Hmm little different then on the sho VSS. The speedo cable sending unit and the sensor itself are one unit. Looks like you are onto the swap nicely! thumb

Well, I do have the AX4N tranny, so the sensor position is more or less the same. I didn't realize that the VSS & speedo are the same, come to think of it, I have no idea WHERE my speedo cable is. shrug

It seems lately that its good that I have the SLO - easier access and cheaper parts

All I have to do is wait for Napa/Autozone to open tomm and go get the replacement so I can drive to Rhode Island!

Newer vehicles don't use a speedo cable, those went the way of the dinosaur.

The newer ones are all elecronic on both ends.

Ok - new issue

Installed the VSS and it did not solve my transmission problem - which is as follows

1. The transmission refuses to downshift to a lower gear when floored - at any speed

2. The 1-2 shift is harsh - not back breaking but enough to throw your head back

3. Cruise control is NOT Functioning - yes it is plugged in, will double check for the 3rd time.

This was working fine before it was left to sit while I gathered parts for the better part of 4 weeks, and up on a 30+ degree angle while on floor jacks for a week while the parts were being swapped.

Again, all was well before she was left to sit. Tranny was rebuilt @86,000 miles, now has 104,000. I am on my way out to RI and will stop into Autozone on my way to get the codes read ... and presumptive ideas?
