vss sensor code 500 1997 sho

trying to repair a code 500 vss sensor on my 1997 sho, irratic shifting, no speedo. does not have a conventional vss sensor like regular Taurus, that would be to easy. anyone know how to fix. I found a brand new abs ford module in el paso texas sitting on a shelf [discontinued part] I was told that speed is calculated through this, anyone know for sure, this thing cost me 550 bucks.
