Just wondering what exactly could be the problem with the transmission on the '89 project we (g/f and I) just purchased. The trans. leaks very badly, with a steady drip. Not sure of where it comes out or anything cause I have not picked the car up yet. I just wanna get a heads up on what the problem may be. The car still does drive, and seems fine. No slipping in the trans. or clutch, and everything engages fine. Is it possible this could just be a leaky gasket that just needs to be replaced? The guy we bought it from said it just started to leak, and after 4 days it was empty. Also, a front bumper can be used from any Gen I, right? Someone hit something, so it needs a grill and new bumper cause there is a SLO bumper on there now.
TIA

Yo good luck with your project. My bro has the exact same one. A very nice car at that. I have a gen 1 bumper if you are interested. It is white and needs the usual prep and stuff before it could be painted to match. Are you interested?

By the way, a leaking trans could be the half shaft seals are leaking pretty bad. Or maybe the drain is loose. Sounds like something stupid to me. Further inspection will be needed.

Where are you from? Also, how much is the bumper? And are fogs included by any change (figured it's worth a try...)

I'm outside of Philadelphia. Already sold the fog lights. How's say 200 bucks sound?? Hit me back.

I don't know...I don't exactly need it yet, plus all my funds are gone just from buying the car. I'll talk to my g/f to see if she wants the bumper cover right away, but the plan was for mechanicals to be completed first. I'll let you know what we decide, but my guess at this point will be that we'll just find another one when we need it.

There are no gaskets between the 2 casings of the MTX IV transmission, though as someone else said, there could be a plug loose or missing, as well as the half-shaft seals. Good luck!
