Valve cover seals/Intake gaskets

Sorry, this is a dumb question but I know you put silicone on the valve cover seals but my question is, do you put anything on the gaskets for the intake manifold?

First off, you shouldnt be using silicone.

Only RTV.

And yes, the oil pan uses RTV. The oil pan "gasket" is actually composed of two end seals. One for the front of the motor (accesory side) and one for the rear (tranny side). The long gap in between the two seals uses a 6mm bead of RTV.

I normally apply just a dab of RTV to both ends of each oil pan seal to set it in place on the engine. Then run my RTV to connect the seals, then install the pan.

I have found (thanks to a tip mentioned on this board) that it makes it MUCH less messy to apply the RTV to the block, rather than the pan. Simply because working that pan into place to get it aligned correctly can be a pain.
