Anyone have an idea of the cost to adjust the valves on a 1990 SHO? I seem to recall that it should be done at 60,000 miles.

Wrong forum. You probably would get a much better response in the correct place. FWIW the GEN 3 only needs the valves adjusted at 100k and then it is questionable whether it is worth while.

Where's the mods at anyway with all this wrong forum posting????? Don't they know how to move discussions?????

Paul, the thread tool that moves incorrectly posted threads between forums has not been working for the last few days, hence I have not been able to shift any, and I would guess that goes for the other moderators also. I just checked it, and it appears to be working today.

I note with interest there was a thread question about why there are a lot of posts here by non-Gen III people, and getting the "General" areas mixed up is certainly a possible answer, but someone else mentioned that if you look at posts via the "new posts" system, it does not indicate which topic group you are in. I have never tried that, but if it is so, it could easily explain a lot of the locational errors in posting.

Anyway, the ability to move threads does appear to be working again, and I will start shifting them again when I see them in the wrong place, as, I am sure, the other moderators will. But this one I will leave, so all of you can tell what has been happening. :)

Gen I SHO??

Ok, so the 1990 must be a Generation I car and this is the wrong place to ask such a question. I never did anything but drive this car since it was new and not very much then, so I am not into all the correct terms about the SHO and the different confirgurations. I will try to make sure any more posts go where they belong and not offend the real car guys.

1990 SHO 41K White-Showroom new and no rust. Arizona car.
1973 De Tomaso Pantera - Restored with all the go fast goodies. 450 hp Cleveland V-8 but not fuel injected yet.
2003 Suzuki Hayabusa - Just plain fast
Several daily drivers to keep the nice stuff nice.

Just normal car guys here, not the 'real' ones. Many people are not aware of the generational breaks in the SHO, and many others doubtless could care less. I am sorry if you took offense, and I doubt that Paul meant you to. He is right that you are more likely to get a fast and correct answer to your questions if you pose them over in the Gen I/II sections, though, simply because more people there will know the answer. The GenI/IIs share much with each other, and not very much with the Gen IIIs.

I had a idea  about this when I read it and believe this would cut WAY down on the miss placed post by new people, like the gentelman (03CopperBusain)with this wrong post. Evidently people that just get on here once in a while to post for problems and etc. Please 03CopperBusa, this is not meant as a slam :slap: or flame :madflame: on you or anyone. It is meant to be this. :D Just a example to help you and others out that do get on here once in a while. And by all means please visit here. :p How about some pics of that low mileage Gen I? :hail: And just to let you know 03CopperBusa, I am a true FORD FAN all the way and you are talkin to me and killin me with that 73 Pantera with the 450 hp Cleveland. I wouldn't mind seein that one also. Just put them in the right place and send me a e-mail to make sure I see them. :salute:

Anyways stephen or Beth or whoever can do this, this is my suggestion.

This is what the headings look like on the main page.
Generations 1 & 2 Performance Upgrades
Generation 3 ~ Troubleshooting & Performance Upgrades
Yes there are a coulple more, I'm sure you know

How about you do this to them to look like this. :thumb:
Generations 1(89-91) & 2(92-95) Performance Upgrades
Generation 3(96-99) ~ Troubleshooting & Performance Upgrades

I think the idea of putting the years associated with each generation group in parens after the name in the forum titles is a good idea.

Beth, what do you think?

I think it's a great idea. Not that long ago the old software had the titles with the years in it but it was very cluttered so I renamed them. With the new software it is much less cluttered looking so I can feel comfortable in changing them back again. I really hadn't noticed many posts out of place in the past, but I suppose it is a problem that can be dealt with easily enough.

03CopperBusa - No worries on not knowing the lingo yet, we all learn it with time. As for the cost of doing a 60k will depend on if you do a complete (front and top) 60k or not. Top 60k includes T-stat, valve lash adjustment, plug wires, plugs, plug well gaskets and valve cover gaskets. Front 60k includes the waterpump, CPS, belts and you might want to consider doing the rod bearings and fuel filter as well (even though they're not on the front).

For parts costs check out
SHO NUT Performance

Ford Parts Network

Midwest SHO

And a lot of parts can be bought at your every day auto parts store. If you check out some of the posts by sdpatt you'll find that he has compiled quite a few lists of 60k parts with part numbers and places he's found to get them with decent price tags.

Best of luck in getting the work done and don't be afraid to ask a question. We're here to help you if we can.

(also, moving over to Gen 1 - Engine, Exhaust, Drive Line & AC systems)

SHO Generation Postings

Posting the year sounds like the way to go. I went through this with my VW Rabbit when I tried to modify it. Some of the VW water cooled forums designate the cars a A-1, A-2, A-3 and A-4 with my old Rabbit falling into the 1975 to 1984 range and they posted the years to keep it simple for guys like myself that are just getting into the forums and how things are done.

I think the SHO valve adjustment may be on hold for a few years now because it is going to take a long time to get 60k on this car. The car is nice if you do need to something that has enough power to do what you want and still get good gas mileage. It is also nice to see that people have an interest in these cars and appreciate them. Had Ford done a better job of marketing the cars when they first came out the SHO could have done better in sales and my still be with us today. The automotive press loved the car when it came out but dealers just didn't know how to sell them. When I bought mine new in 1990, it took 30 minutes just to find someone that had any information at all about the engine and this was a large dealership. This isn't the first time Ford mis-marketed a car. I will never understand why they put the De Tomaso Pantera in Lincoln dealerships other than the price of them being more than a Lincoln Continental and someone thought that the "Sign of the Cat" needed an exotic hot rod.

Thanks for all the information about the SHO and keep your forum going.

You are right about the SHO, and yes that is us here as far as the interest in them and appreciating them. Just like you with the Pantera I'm sure. Oh, and thanks for the pics. :thumb:
