Hi all. I'm a regular over at the TCCA, and I posted a question/request over there and someone suggested I ask here.

I have a '99 SE with the 24v motor, and I was looking at puting a factory SHO catback on to give my car a bit more looks and power. It's my understanding that the SHO exhaust is 2.25in, will bolt right up, and has a decent tone to it. Is all of this true? If so, do any of you whom have gone to a full catback happen to have your stock system collecting dust, and what would you part with it for. I'm looking for as cheap a system as I can find.

Thanks much for any help you guys can provide.

Forgot to ask. How large are the stock SHO mufflers, and what body lengths are you running on replacements usually?

Not sure on the exact size of the muffler but 2.25 offset/offset is the stock muffler.

I have a set of Rhino center/offset 908's on my 99. The offset/offset work a bit better.

www.ipchuth.com is the Rhino site but for some reason its not coming up for me. The exact size would be there. They are pretty close to stock size.

Here's your best bet. Find a junked Gen 3. Front end damage or something and see if you can get the stock flex pipe off of it. Other than that and a set of mufflers...its just tubing.

Hope this helps.

The stock sound is fairly mild. You might want to consider a set of aftermarket muffs right off. Just find something that sounds nice and go with it.

If you don't get anything here...subscribe to the V8SHO.com email list for a few days and post a message there. There's a few gents that have full catbacks on their car that may be able to help you with parts, etc.

My basic plan was to get the SHO catback segment on there, throw on some nice looking and sounding mufflers, and maybe a SHO Shop flex pipe to top things off. I have one of the late '99 24v Taurii that were converted to single exhaust, hence my wanting the duals from the SHO.

Thanks for the help though. BTW, I weant out and measured the one muffler and it's about 20" long, offset/offset. I'd be willing to bet the SHO's are about the same.

BTW, sweet '99 SHO. Same year and color as my SE. BTW, ever concidered some 18" wheels and a set of lowering springs to go with the new exhaust bits and such? I have both and it really helps give the Taurus a mean look, especially on the SHO.

I'll be moving to a Marauder in 18 months...so I'm not gonna go with 18's. Too much extra weight...and I like to drag this puppy

DO NOT go with the SHOShop flex pipe. Scour a junk yard for a stock SHO one. You don't need it...and the stock one will last much longer. There have been reports already of the SHOShop ones rusting out. Just FYI.

Remember too that the SHO catback isn't a true dual catback. It splits after the resonator.

It goes.... 2 (off headers) to 1...flex pipe...3rd cat...resonator muffler....SPLIT to duals...mufflers.

You could just have a mechanic weld on a split Y pipe and go with a dual exhaust after the SE's flex pipe. Just an idea. And while you're at the junkyard picking up the stock flexpipe get a set of the SHO exhaust tips.

I would think that the exhaust note/tone comes from the engine so the SHO sound which comes from the V8 would be different compared to a Duratec V6. Considering they would have the same exhaust piping and split into 2 mufflers.
Here's a FYI, if you're really considering a true dual exhaust, there's no such thing (now) in existence. Borla used to make one but they discontinued it. I would seriously consider what Mark(the lastsho) suggested and go with the SHO exhaust pipes including the Y pipes then removed the resonator then aftermarket mufflers then stock SHO exhaust tips. Aesthetically it will the tips will look stock.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll probably go with a full SHO catback to get the most out of the 2.25" diameter pipings extra flow. The SE is running 1 and 7/8" stock. I relize the exhaust isn't true duals, but right now I'm mainly trying to get something a little better flowing and looking on there, and worrying about a possible custom headers back true dual setup later. BTW, all of your car's look sweet, and it sounds like all of them are running some serious performance mods for going, stoping, and turning.

BTW, I notice SHOCRUZR has a wish list, and I'm sure you others have them too. I work at a local speed shop sometimes at sales, and I can probably get you good deals on things. Feel free to e-mail me questions. Later.

The "to be installed on a later date" section I already have the parts just waiting for a warmer weather to work on the garage except the Fred Cwik CAI Stage I kit. I'm still waiting for some parts to come in. And some more R&D on it. The 18" MOMO Status wheels is questionable right now is I cannot find a store that has this in 5x4.25" bolt pattern and 38-45 mm offset. This will be more for looks. If I have enough cash I will order me a set of Magnesium or 2-3 piece lightweight wheels for dragstrip/ autocross/ road course use. Of course we know why I want some ZEX kit, I want to have fun laughing(hehehe!). The Cobra Engine will be my ultimate mod. If I get this I will transform the SHO into a Cobra SHO. 5 speed tranny, rear wheel drive. I have another person with me thinking of doing this and I will have to contact a friend of mine to make the HOTROD changes.:burnout:
