I was so proud that i took my time and did the valves , cleaning everything , gaskets, etc on the the upper 60k. Then I go to start it and i get a whiffle sounding cranking . It does not seem like it wants to fire at all.. Just a muffled sounding cranking. I hope i paint this the right way. The car ran great prior to except the oil in the plug wells. I changed the plugs, wires, adj each valve, spent 12 hrs on the darn thing to no avail when i go to start it. It sounds like it is turning over but not the way it used to. I thought maybe the plug wires were wrongly hooked up.. i checked off SHOPhoenix and it is hooked up correctly. Not sure if i am getting spark or fuel..??Does anyone have any idea where/how I may start to trouble shoot this. I am not a mech, but can usually figure things out. Any help would greatly be appreciated. If there is anyone around the Camp Pendleton area, I would really appreciate any help.., Thanks

I actually had the same thing happen to me.

My first upper 60k on my ATX. Put it all together and swore when I turned it over, it sounded like the starter wasnt engauging or if it was, I wasnt gettting compression right? Like it was spinning really fast? Scared the crap out of me as I just took apart a 60,000 mile 95 that ran fine before I started the job.

How much have you cranked it over? Just a little bit? Did you happen to spray alot of berrymans into the top of the head to clean the top of the valves off? I did, and thought I might have just flooded the car really bad (no I didnt hydrolock it), but I might have just gotten alot of crap in the cylinders.

Here was what happened to mine: I prayed over it and cranked it over again for a few seconds and it started right up.

I never did nail down what the problem was, it just never happened again. ...that was 26,000 miles ago

Check the codes for a start.

It won't start at all? Did you plug the DIS in and make sure that the two bolts on the crossover tube are installed? What about the ground strap on the back? Just go over each step in the guide, you had to have missing a connection somewhere...

I prayed till about zero dark 30 this morning over it..took the manilfold off , made sure no hoses were crimped, wires cut, etc. I was getting spark so i assumed fuel may be the prob. I got it back together around 0100 , held my foot to the floor on the gas pedal and she fired,,,yesssssss. And you (Raptor) were right about it spinning without compression being felt. what a relief. Thanks to both of ya..
